I bought one because I can't seem to keep the same angle to any sharpener I have ever used. It does work, I just don't want to use the more abrasive belts and over grind the blade. It is simple to use...

Local hardware store has it on sale. Seems like a quick way to touch up a knife with a finer grit?

To hear Shrap say he can't always keep the blade at the correct angle somehow makes me feel better. I will now buy one.

Do either work on axe blades?

I find a diamond sharpener does a fine job of touching up my blades.

The link says it does. I use an angle grinder for anything bigger than a knife. The Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener is also able to sharpen other common tools including scissors, axes and hatchets, mower blades, garden shears, shovels, and most any tool with a blade. The versatility of the Knife & Tool Sharpener makes it an invaluable tool for keeping all your blades in razor sharp condition and ready whenever you need them.

I saw one of those sharpeners at AIH I believe, I was wondering if they were any good.
I use a hand file to sharpen my axes.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

I use a HF 1" belt sander with various grits than these boutique tools...the Spyderco ceramic stones do fine work even on super steels that normally need diamond.
I'd invest in a DVD instructional and learn to sharpen stuff...practice on kitchen knives...most folks kitchen knives need major rehab.
Once you understand the principles well you can sharpen on a coffee cup and a leather belt.
It ain't all burritos and strippers my friends...

I haven't tried mine on knives yet. I'm impressed on the lawn mower blades. You remove less metal than a grinding wheel, and the edge seems to last well.
If you love someone set them free If they come back no one else liked them Set them free again

I use a Lansky; not an auto or electric but if you follow the simple directions with a kit it does an amazing job on knife blades. No experience using one with axes.

don't get one Mike!
you're dangerous enough without sharp instruments at the ready

For about the last 8 -10 years or so I've used a Spyderco Sharpmaker and couldn't be happier with it. I keep it handy and am always touching up blades BEFORE they get too bad. Good stuff..... http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=77

I wish you would have admitted your angular degenerative condition to me; I could've helped.....unless of course I'd have been looking at a diamond re-ground back bevel cut on most pliers knives I get asked to make shave hair....

I don't HAVE TO have that gizmo, I'm just a sharpening implement fan.
I have a selection of stones and do a passable job freehand. I have a Lansky that does a good job.
Also have a bunch of carbide edge profilers, Smith's carbide/ceramic sharpeners, several diamond sticks, a ceramic honing rod, a quartz rod (burned out parking lot lightbulb).
It looked like a quick way to freshen an edge.
