Shrapnel, Is that a single beam on the side facing the camera? It has one point on the main beam, but I thought he was still a cool looking buck with the saber-like beam. I figured it was a good buck to shoot with the old model 70...

He's a lot more composed than I would be if I'd grounded that thumper. I would imagine that running in circles,Clapping my hands and squealing like a 3 year old girl would be considered undignified for a 54 year old man, But I'd hope no one would take pictures of that part of the hunt.

Sticking with the "as it lay" theme - this deer was one I had just about given up on finding. I took me 45 minutes. I was hunting some small interconnected pocket muskegs above this location. Pretty confident I hit the deer, but no blood trail (turned out to be a complete pass-thru with a 130 TTSX from a .30-30 carbine). The deer took off in a downhill trajectory. After working all the "easy" stuff,I guessed at the most likely gulley it would have gone down. Got the the bottom of that gully and found nothing. Side hilled it and started working back up and found it had piled up at pictured location (just under 100 yds from where shot).

Got him just before sunset yestderday. He was uphill from me, hence the low entry, heart shot. First shot fired at game with my 280 AI, 120 gr TTSX.

Shot this guy this guy this morning and he fell posed perfectly against a sapling ready to have his pic taken.
Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.
True fair chase is you in the woods buttnaked with nothing but your finger nails and teeth.
If you'e fixin' to put a hole in something, make it a hole to remember.
