My son uses a .30-06 Model of 1917 for much of his deer and bear hunting. It's served four generations of our family since it was surplused shortly after WWII: Grandpa, Dad, me and my son. Built for WWI and still doing a fine job on the range and in the field.

'Course I did update it a tad...

[quote=2muchgun]I normally deer hunt with one "classic" and one "high tech" rifle. I always take 2 to camp. This year I just may be rocking 2 old school rifles. A Rem 141 in 35 Rem shooting 200gr Interlock RN handloads:

I don't know what it is lately but I've really been wanting one of those 14's in 35 rem, I've been looking high and low.

Was gifted ( for $1!) this old Marbles Ideal about 2 weeks ago!

I will add that's of 30 or so centerfire rifles, the "newest" deer rifle I own is a '53 vintage Model 64 Winchester. So anytime I go out its gonna havta be old school rifle-wise.

Maybe just me but I have a hard time considering it "rockin it old school" with modern optics on top. My "old school" rifles all have period correct sighting arrangements and yes I still hunt with them every season.

Finally some eye candy.

Great old knife Kay. Love Marbles stuff. Love to see some of your old rifles if you have pics. I have a 64, a 55, 86, 2 94s, 2 71s, and a 99 or 2, all with open sights. It just wasn't their turn ths year.

Love the 95 Scott. I need to take one of those red racked bucks one of these days....

Nothing like stalking wet woods with heavy wool and 16 in. LLBeans.

I really like that Remington in .35 Rem. I had a chance to get one in .30, but thought about too long.

2MG, those are both sharp rifles.. A couple I have never owned. The 88 is something I have always thought I would like in a .243 and the slide action Remingtons are awesome.. Enjoy your hunt... I think I would take a hi tech rifle just incase...

Thanks.

Yeah, our weather goes from zero to $hitty real fast. Especially up near Thunder Bay where I often hunt. There's a reason why the highest concentration of shipwrecks on the Great Lakes are right there, and why they don't sail in November.

Then again, you still see more old school rifles in northern Michigun than anything else.............

2muchgun, you've got me thinking about my deer arsenal and what it holds for older guns. Only 2 rifles in my collection really qualify; an early model Ruger Deerfield carbine and the mid-50's vintage '94 Winchester in .32 Special that my Dad passed to me a year ago.

I'll see if I have a pic or 2, but anything I have will pale in comparison to what you've posted.

No such thing as "paling in comparison" in my book. I love them all. I'd love to have that 44 carbine if you ever wanted to trade anything for it. And would love to see some pics of your rifles....

I need to pickup a Krag one of these days. I remember tripping over the damn things in gun shops when I was a lad.
