I've had a chance to wear the Salomon Quest boots for 40-50 miles in a couple different types of terrain. Verdict: I really like them.

I've done steep E TN mountains with ~ 30 lbs on my back, snow and rain, a couple longish treks (8-10 miles round trip), and simply bumming around. I had no hot spots, no boot uncomfortableness in any area - no heel eaters, no toe jammers, no cramps in the arch of my foot, nothing. They've been one of the most comfortable pair of boots I've ever tried with minimal break in.

Time will tell how long they last but this winter will be telling as I do alot of hiking and deer scouting from January through March. Snow, ice, rain, slippery terrain will be on the menu for next 2-3 months. So far I'd give them an "A". Thanks prm for the suggestion!

Glad to hear it worked out. Mine have a couple of very challenging elk seasons on them and they are doing fine. I did change the insoles after this year as a refresh. I don't have an expectation of lifelong use the way some do with Meindls or other high end boots. They have been through just about all the Rockies can throw at a boot short of extreme cold/snow (so far temps in the teens and ~9" of snow is the limit) and so far I am pleased with mine as well.

I have a pair of Merrell Mattertal I've had them a few years now there great. My feet sweat a lot so having none insulated boots are a must for me. I wear them in the snow as well i just wear warmer socks and gators when it gets cold.
