Hello, Im a leftie and started to look into an AR15.
I see DPMS has a "southpaw" upper as does Stag. Who has the better rep now?
I'm sure theres no used one floating around as its too new, whats a good source for purchase. I know quite a bit about firearms, but very little about the blackplastic gas guns.
thanks for input, regards, CWG

Stag has had their lefties around for a couple of years now and I've never heard anything bad about them. DPMS is new to lefties so I don't think that you'll find a lot of reviews on it yet but the company has an excellent reputation so it's pretty much whichever one you get the best deal on.

I think they're about the same. My leftie boss has a Stag, and it works fine. (the trigger was a little stiff, but that was cured.)

In fact, I really don't see a whole lot of differences in quality of uppers, given they're within the same category. Some don't have forward assists, some don't have dust covers, but all the makers make these for target rifles, and they're priced comparably.

Stag is fine, and so is DPMS. Me, I'd ge the cheapest one. Gotta have a leftie bolt carrier, as I'm sure you know.

Well, that's how I bought one. I bought another lower, and built the rifle. It works fine, and probably saved me $200.

You only need a few tools to put on the barrel....namely a barrel wrench, and a drift pin for the lower. Also, a stock wrench.

But your advice is well-said. I don't think I'd build another one. It's not that I can't, ist's just that I had a number of spare parts lying around and could save the money on them. All told, I saved a bunch more than $200 (which would have been about what the diffeence is in a parts kit) because a guy gave me a lower.

My only point is it's easy to build an AR type rifle.

DPMS has had lefties for years. I don't know the exact time they started producing them but I know it was a least ten years ago.

I have built several lefties with DPMS parts. The anodizing on their receivers are a little soft for my taste but otherwise there is nothing wrong with them. I have gotten excellent accuracy and reliability out of them.

I was advised by Stag that you had to use their LH model barrels.
