Today, I gathered every rifle, shotgun, and handgun and ran a patch thru the bore of all. Then gave the actions and outside a smidge of oil.

I have been using Mobil 1, 0 to -20 for quite a few years. Some of these firearms have not been touched for 4-5 years, some just this year. There was absolutely no rust anywhere.

A while back on this very topic someone stated that Mobil 1 was for lubrication, not rust prevention. I have found it works very well for both

A few of the guns were on the wall, a few in my drawer under the bed, but most were in the safe that had a Golden Rod. Admittedly the humidity is not very high in CO, but it ran 30%+ for several weeks this year.

In the Houston area it runs 95-100% for about 9 months a year.

In the house it averages 60-65%.

CORROSION X on everything.

I use Gibb's lubricant and rust inhibitor on all my old Winny's. Google it and read up on it.

I have heard it over and over how great Mobil 1 is as a rust preventive for firearms....at around $25.00 for a 5 qt jug, that has to be the cheapest "gun oil" around!

Anyone ever use Barricade?

I've used it on my Benelli hunting the brackish coastal waters and had great luck with it but I'm meticulous about cleaning it after a hunt. The new WD40 specialist is supposed to be really good as a rust preventative but I've yet to try it.

I bought a quart at about $8 and it is a lifetime supply for me

In near every extensive test Mobil 1 has been an extremely poor rut preventative.

There are FAR better preventative such as WD-40 corrosion prevent, Ezzox, Frog Lube and others.

However, if you personally like it use it.

I'wont use it; I will use one of the one's I mentioned.

Put Mobil 1 on a raw piece of steel and leave it outside for a few days and you will see how good a "rust inhibitor" Mobil 1 (or any oil) is. Oil is a lubricator not a rust inhibitor. Read about Gibbs products.

johnsons furniture wax in paste form , works great , S.E. AK is the rust capitol of the world , if it works well here should work anywhere.

I don't store my guns outside and I don't have any safe queens that never get used.

This year, I spent 24 days in the field in two separate elk hunts. ML season had some rain and rifle season had some rain/snow, so there were days where humidity was fairly high. The ML and two rifles had no rust on them at the end of each season. The rifles have not been cleaned as they will get used the next twos weeks for deer and antelope.

I don't know how well it works in other areas of the country, but here it works great, but it might not work well in high humidity areas. I can pull any gun out of the safe and use it in any weather down to -20 or lower and I know it won't gum up. I don't have to clean any rust inhibitor off, and it wets better than most oils. If I were to hunt in the rain, which I don't, after the days hunt with any type of oil, I would clean the gun totally to get any moisture off.

I didn't post this to start an argument and won't pursue it further, I posted my results and experience as others have asked about it over the years.

Sorry if I offended you. Not arguing. Just adding to discussion. You should use mobil 1.

That was my favorite. All my rifles got a couple of coats before they were ever fired. I've switched to Renaissance wax because it dries clear and doesn't leave an orange haze in the lettering.

I dont want to take away from the OP, but a couple people I know use car wax on the exterior parts. They said it works great keeping the rust off.

I have not personally used car wax, but I guess it makes sense.
