On Wednesday, I picked up the 77/22 stainless RSI I had on layaway.
It's so cute I don't even care if it shoots.

I missed out on one a little over a year ago when they first came out. Been kicking myself ever since. I think they are the sharpest looking rimfire out there period. I will end up getting one at some point, they ain't cheap but quality stuff never is.

The fit and finish are first-rate.
My only complaint is that it comes with medium rings, which are too high for a good cheek weld. They're going back to Ruger to be exchanged for low ones. I'm probably going to mount a Leupold 1-4 or 2-7 ML scope with the Turkey Plex. The ML scopes have better eye relief than the RF scopes and the TP reticle has a fine crosswire inside a circle. i have a similar setup on my old 581, and it's very fast and still gives a fine aiming point.

I have tried low rings on my 77/22 and bolt handle clearance became an issue with a full size Leupold scope. I wound up going back to mediums.

I was using a Leupold FX2 4x33. The bolt handle rubbed the eyepiece when I used low rings. I wound up trading back for medium rings. Your mileage may vary.

I emailed them this morning, giving the eyepiece diameter of the scopes I'm considering.
We'll see.
Their customer service line plays a recording telling you to call back later, and then hangs up. Very friendly.
Thanks for the info.

Pappy348 - how's that Burris rear sight working out for you? Been thinking about it or a red dot for a 10/22 compact w/16" barrel that I installed into a full size stock (LOP w/ spacer 13.75). Don't like the factory rear fiber optic sight and a scope just looks out of place. Homesteader

I haven't fired it yet; still deer season here. It is very fast and it lets me aim without glasses, which I cannot do with a peep.
The sight is a first-generation Fastfire, which means it's not totally waterproof, and it must be removed from the base to change the battery. The batteries last a very long time though, as long as you replace the cover when not in use. The latest model is waterproof and lets you change the battery with the sight on the gun. It also has 3 brightness settings in addition to the auto mode. A low setting can make the dot look smaller, allowing finer aiming. A low power scope will let you aim finer, but is heavier and probably slower. I may end up using both, depending on what I'm shootin' at.
For someone with old eyes, the Fastfire is better than a peep, I think, and is still very light and rugged. In addition, It mounts directly to the Ruger dovetail with the proper base adapter, the only one that does so to my knowledge. You can get the Fastfire III on Amazon for about $210, with a Weaver/picatinny adapter and the Ruger adapter is about $40. Be sure you order the 3-minute dot, not the 8.

Another really nice red dot is the Vortex SparcII, which also has a Picatinny mount and is really rugged, with a lifetime warranty. I put one on my Bisley .357.

Pappy34 - thanks's for the info on the FastFire...at 67 y/o I know quite a bit about 'aging eyes' and peep sights. Fact is I sometimes feel the need to train my dog on trigger pullin'. Homessteader

I'd like to train my dog to do something useful too, but his career as a furniture tester takes up all his time.

Thats a great looking little gun.
Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.

Ain't it though?
I had to have it even though I've got a nice CZ 453 that really shoots. I might sell that one, depending on how this one shoots. If nothing else, the RSI will be a great little plinker and rabbit rifle.
Now if I could just find some rabbits.

When I get my rings back from Ruger, I will have to mount a scope for accuracy testing, but the fastfire may have to go back on for fun!
I wish I could find a matching CF for less than $1250.
