So I was at Cabelas yesterday and found this Marlin 1895 45/70. It's different than any 1895 I've ever seen. It's marked as a CB, but it only has an 18.5 inch barrel, not the standard 26 inch of a CB. The barrel does not appear to have been cut. The stocks are much slimmer than a Guide gun and have no checkering. It has the full length magazine of a CB also. Which model is this and what's it worth? The closest model I've found is the LTD III, but this one is clearly marked CB, yet it is definitely not a standard CB. This seems like the perfect saddle gun...

looks like someone did a bob job on the barrel. it also looks like it was polished and reblued from the pictures but could be just my eye. value? I'd go 450 to maybe 525 on it. would make a slick brush gun.

Barrel has not been cut and it has not been reblued.

in that case I'd say it is a special order and the price would go up 50%. just curious what is the price?

They made a handful of short cowboys. They also did a run of them for commemoratives, AK statehood commemorative was one of the shorties. It would probably command a slight premium over a standard CB IME.

A bit of research tells me that this is an 1895 CBA, a seemingly very limited run made for Cabelas only. I loaded it up last night to see if it would actually feed, and what do you know, it actually does, unlike the last 2 Marlin 45/70s I had...

This may be a keeper...

What bullets were you trying to use in the ones that had issues?

And, were they "JM" stamped rifles?

They were Remlins, as is this one. Didn't matter what bullet as neither of them would feed anything as they came out of the box. One stock had such horrible inletting, I had to glass bed it to keep it from rocking 1/8 of an inch or so.

This one is much, much better though. Not perfect, but much better than the last ones.

I hate to hear that. Marlin was such a good name just a few short years ago.

Well, here's hoping you find one that works, and it's the one you like.

I have a Guide gun and really enjoy hunting with it. Not so much shooting it with the heavier loads, and I've backed them off for deer hunting.

my jm guide gun is my go to for deer, and elk. I have a GBL that was made in North Haven. has all the rem markings. Remington made a mistake on and made it as well as my JM's. I really like the large lever for cold weather. have been shooting marlins for most of my life in one model or another. the decline of the marlin line has turned I hope.

deerstalker, from what I'm hearing, the quality is definitely on the upswing.

It will still be hard to live down the "Remlin" reputation, though. It'll take some time.
