I'm not much for factory ammo but saw an short blurb last night in Suc Hunter written by John Haviland on the Norma Kalahari ammo.
I see that they're making a .270 load with a 120 @ 3250 fps. Sounds like an interesting factory load to me.
JB or Steelhead and or anyone else have you given them a go?
Many thx

Hi Mark,
Ain't JB or Steelhead but i got some boxes of Kalahari to test and chrono the velocity. Using a Pact chronographn and my Haenel Jager 10 rifle in 270Winch, with 24C temperature, 5 to 6km/h wind, i shot some 5 rounds groups at a 100 meters and controlled the velocity. The 270 was more than spot on with factory data (2 inch shorter barrel) at 3248 fps average. This barrel is a fast one. ES was a very small 32fps for 10 rounds. Accuracy from a Millet pyramid plastic rest (no bench rest shooting tool)was a bit less than moa. Scope was my old S&B 1,5-6x42, german4 reticule. Hardly the best tool for max target accuracy. Recoil is light but blast is consequent.
In 300Winch mag from a Mark 1 Ruger 77, the ES was only 12fps for five rounds, velocity 3297fps average. Accuracy less than moa. This old Ruger always liked hard bullets, be them Failsafe, XP3, French GPA or Sauvestre Fip, Barnes , Sellier Bellot Exergy and now Kalahari. 270WSM and 7x64 were as good as the first two. No chance yet to use them on game.
Hope it's help you.
Have good week end.
Dom

Mark,
I've got some Kalahari ammo on hand, including the 120 .270 load, but am waiting on delivery of a new .270 before testing it.

Let me see what happens with this new .270 first. I'm supposed to have it by July 1.

Yes box is cool, very cool (not as cool as Corelokt may be ) and cartridges so nice and expansive it's pity to burn them on paper! But job is job and must be done. Ruag is sending me some bullets to handload, will use them in my 7x65R.

Did you ever get any bullets and are they available as components? I checked on Norma USA's website and it didn't list them as a reloading component. I like the design of this bullet and would like to try some in a 300 Win Mag, but as loaded ammo it's a little pricy!

Midway is saying 3-27-13 in stock date... but who knows.
I would love to buy some bullets to reload, to just play with of course.

I shot the Norma Kalahari ammo out of my .270 Win this weekend and its extremely accurate out of my rifle. Has anyone shot any game with these yet? I would love to hear some on game performance results of this bullet. I may consider using on my upcoming mountain goat hunt.
Thanks

What...no one mentions when you are done you got that nice Norma brass to reload? Brass alone is worth about $.75 ea.

A little F/U to this old thread. The 150gr 308 and 120gr 270 Kalahari have been very accurate in my rifles and performance on deer and hogs is excellent. Wound channels are impressive with deep penetration. This doe was shot at 200yds from a tree climber stand (about 20ft) with a 270 120gr Kalahari. She was slightly quartered towards me (almost direct frontal shot). The bullet entered just above the right shoulder, took out a rib and the top of the heart and traveled her entire length shattering the back left hip.

As an aside, what is the cheekpiece that you have on that rifle? It looks pretty useful.

I did use the Norma Kalahari ammo on my hunt this year and took a nice mule deer and mountain goat. Bullet performance was spectacular.
