I grabbed this Marlin 336 in .35 Remington off GunBroker because I loved the carving in the rear stock. I assumed there is a story behind it from some unknown last-owner. But id Marlin ever sell these 336's with this type of carving as factory-original?

This is not factory. Commonly seen on older guns, especially here in the northeast. Hope this helps.
