I've used a first model Newton chambered forthe 30 only last three elk. I use 8x68S brass to form the Newton case. 200gr partitions and 7828 is what I load. Neat old rifles.

Awesome pictures! I have never thought about forming the Newton brass from 8x68S and have been using 375 Ruger brass.. How many steps to make the Newton brass from the 8x68S?

Thanks! To make the Newton Brass, I just run the 8x68S brass into the FL die, trim, and shoot. Buffalo Arms also has 30 Newton brass in stock.

I would love to find and original Newton peep site. Both of my rifles were drilled and tapped when I got them. I found the 256 at a local shop and somebody had re-barreled it to 30-06. I had a 1-8 twist lilja barrel put on. It's nowhere near original, but I really enjoy hunting with it.

My great grandfathers 30 Newton has the Newton cocking piece sight, my .256 does not but I bought this one with a damaged base. I don't yet know how I'm going to fix it.

I bet you could find a machinist that could make a new base for it.

grin

The shot was about 220 yards and he was standing dead center between the ruts of a two track road. It was about the smallest buck I've shot in a long time, but all I could see when I looked at him was jalapeo and cheese kielbasa cool. At the shot he ran about 30 yards in a circle and died about 2 feet from where he was standing when I pulled the trigger. When I walked up to him you could see a piece of lung sticking out the bullet hole. This deer and an antelope were both shot with a 123gr Scenar. Both died quickly with massive blood trails. Neither bullet exited but everything inside was jelly. I can't complain about how fast they died, but as a guy who grew up on Nosler partitions I'm still a little uneasy about how the Scenars worked.
