The serial number certainly puts this at 1915, and its certainly a TD. I took the barrel off once, and put it back on. But I'm not going to make that a habit. When I bought it there was an old Weaver El Paso type scope on it, which I immediately removed and kept for something else. Too bad about its being drilled and tapped. But for a 99 year old gun, pretty amazing how gooda shape its in.

The really nutty thing is the tang sight. Never seen one with a dovetailed rearward hole slider. Works though. I adjusted the windage with it and a laser boresighter at fifty yards. The ammo is pricy so I hope that will at least have me on paper.

Here are more pictures.

Alright, now I'll bite my tongue, couldn't see the takedown latch in your pictures but the checkering isn't right for that gun. Unless someone has added some more to it.

Have you checked for matching numbers on that forearm, not the best fit I've seen either.

If you had a G butt stock you can make some money at CGN right now, all I have is 1899 and 1895 wood here.

It's getting to the point of not even coming to this site anymore with these ads running, taking me 5 minutes to make a post if it doesn't lock the whole page up, what a POS, do they make that much off them?

All the 1915 250-3000 's I've seen have a heavy perchbellystock. This one looks like a strait stock to me. Still makes a good shooter for that price.

Maybe it was restocked half a century ago. Thankfully whoever did it did a nice job with some pretty walnut. I dont care because I bought it to hunt animals. I shoot my guns. As much as I can. To that end, given the age of the action and barrel (if not the furniture) I assume it is 1-10 twist.

Will 100 grainers be alright?

Anybody try 80 gr Barnes all coppers?

I drop deer like a bag of rocks at 100 yards with 62 gr bonded 223s. I was thinking this would double that range.

The gun was developed to shoot 87's so it could get to the magic number

3000

Oh, by the way, I called Load-X in California and they will load me all the 250 Savage I want. Everything from 75s up to 120s. Guy quoted me some very attractive prices too. I am thinking of a sampler case of different bullet weights to see which is best. Prob in the 75-100 grain range.

FoR get the Barnes and 120gr bullets, long bullets won't stabilize in a 1 in 14" twist barrel. Short 100's and cup and core 87's will probably work fine.

A 1915 rifle should have a perch belly stock, though a later one would have a straight stock. If you remove the buttplate it and the buttstock should have serial numbers on them. You can check to see if it matches the rifle.

Looks like a fun gun, definitely an interesting tang site. Enjoy!

I removed the buttplate, a blued steel one, and the two blued steel screws, to reveal a matching code on plate and buttstock -- 111.

The rifle is 171590 -- so perhaps that settles it.

Rifle was restocked at some point in the past century.

Awesome!

It just does NOT matter to anyone but you. As long as you're happy with the rifle everyone else's opinion is meaningless. Enjoy the heck out of it. Remember,,,,,,,,,,,money is useless unless you spend it. What you get with the money is key. grin grin grin

We've seen codes like that on some that looked like factory repairs, though the forearm doesn't look like factory. A bit more info for you, but won't affect how it shoots. Enjoy!

I again am so sorry......I ASS umed it was original when I stated my believed value. That is why I have started collecting Marlins.........a lot cheaper LOL. Once again I am so sorry I thought she was straight. I still think she is bad ass. I was so enamored with the sight I forgot to look 4 the perch belly.

I'd have bought that for $325 without a second thought. Heck, the sight is worth probably 1/3rd of that even with the modification. Hunt the heck out of it, 99 years old and probably has another century of good life ahead of it.
