This may be no big deal to you southern boys..
but here in New England, for us to be able to launch a boat and fish this late in the season is a big deal.
Warming trends and rain this past week kicked out the skim ice on a southern NH lake,so this morning my fishing buddy and I launched about 9 AM to try some post Christmas bass fishing...December 26th is pretty late for this stuff.
But air temps were in the high 30's so we bundled up and went at it. Long story short we caught 53 fish from 1.5-3.5 pounds by 3:30 this afternoon. No monsters but great fun on (mostly) light spinning and bait cast tackle.
For those summertime fishermen wondering where the bass were in 37 degree water,we caught them in 15-30 feet off main lake humps, and points...and flats adjacent to those same places. As usual location was everything and there was lots of water where we never got touched,
But the fish were very concentrated in certain spots.
For those interested we caught all the fish on gitzits rigged on 1/4 oz ballheads, spinning gear and 8# test;and 3/8-1/2 oz footballs rigged with Smallie Beavers and 12 # test on medium bait cast gear.
I figure we beat the rap and you can't get away with this stuff every year up here.
