Anybody running the Speer 100 grain HP in their 25 for coyotes? I know they have a huge HP and the B.C. is not the best but seems like it should work and if loads work out I should be able to run these for varmints and the 100 Hot Cor for deer. Hide damage is not a factor either, too many rubs and a lot of mange around here any more.

10, In the past I shot some of those in my .25-06's.. Never tried them in the one I have now.. But they were a coyote killer for sure.. Still use some of those style Speer's in 52 grain for my .22's.

If I were going to use my 25-06 for coyote's I'd use the bullet I use for every thing else, 117gr Hornady inter lock. But I have a 243 I use with a 75gr Hornady V-Max that works great.

Poked a few deer with 100 grain ballistic tip out of a 257 weatherby, 25-06, and 25-06 Ackley and I don't think I kept one in a deer. They are tougher than they used to be.

So from what I am able to find out is the 100 BT has been strengthened up a bit and the 85 was made more [bleep]. Not sure how true this is on the 85 but do know the hunting line up got a make over. I actually have a few 85's from late 90's, are these supposedly the tougher 85 BT?
My buddy had loaded a few from my supply back then and he felt they were too tough, just 1 mans opinion.

You ask about the Speers, but like bea175, I have had great luck with the 100 grain BTBT.. It was my bullet of choice in other rifles.. My current .25-06 doesn't seem to like them(although I may have to recheck this)I switched to 100 grain Sierra FB.. the Noslers would have been my first pick, but the Sierra's cut one small hole at 100 yards and at just over 3400fps, they drop little to 500.. that is about my limit for the .25.

Asked about the Speers because I liked the idea of basically running the same bullets for yotes/deer, spitzer for deer since tougher than the HP that would be used for dogs. Definitely not set on them though. Just wanting ideas on dual purpose bullets. I do have some 100 grain Gamekings but know at close range penetration may be an issue on quartering shots on deer although they would probably rock a yotes ass pretty handily.

The Hornady 75 grain SP or VMax would be my choice for a coyote load. The Hornady 100 SP works well too. I have killed more coyotes as targets of opportunity while deer hunting than while actually hunting them.

10 ga. Ya I shot quite a few rockchucks w/them. My Coyote load uses an old (90's vintage) 85 gr NBT as fast as I can push em in my Mod. 70. Mostly I use a Swift though. As for a dual purpose bullet I don't think you can beat a 100 gr Hornady IL which is what I use for most everything, again as fast as the book says to go w/a 4350. Muddy

Muddy Funny you mention the older Ballistic Tip as I have about 30 of them from the mid to late 90's. A buddy of mine tried them and he felt they were a pretty tough bullet, he thought they may even make a decent deer bullet. Going to load some up just to see what I can get them to do.

I used modern 85gr Btips to shoot a couple bull caribou this year with my 257 WBY. They worked great, I broke shoulders with them and of the three I launched I only caught one and it had broke a shoulder and the spine on a severe uphill shot. I like them and will continue to use them for deer sized game.
Only coyote I've shot with a 25 was with a 100 grain Herters SPBT out of the same 257wby. 75ish yards frontal shot exited the rear end with a quarter sized hole.
I've killed coyotes with 22 rimfires, birdshot, and all manner of CF rifles big and small. I would just use your deer load and rock on if you're not skinning them.

I am just going to end up loading up a deer load and pack this gun when I hunt farms or areas that ricochet of a heavier bullet is not much of a concern. Looking at 100/115 Ballistic Tips or possibly 110 Accubonds.
