If its a terrier, you might consider ' Loki'.....the Norse God of Chaos  Your really making me feel good about this...  Thats what you get for buying them just cause they're cute If it was a Jack russell, Loki would be a sure bet. Borders are 'supposed' to be one of the calmest of the terrier breeds, still hyper obviously but very calm as far as terriers go, and very trainable. We'll see

Borders are 'supposed' to be one of the calmest of the terrier breeds, still hyper obviously but very calm as far as terriers go, and very trainable. We'll see I knew a ranch hand who had a dog named "Damnit" It was great to hear him call his dog.

Dan, that dog is out of control!!! The Border Terriers are a bit more calm, but like any other dog, you find individuals in any litter that peg out the spectrum. The breeder and I chose my GSD due to his sociability and laid back nature. He's really slow speed for a dog that comes from working lines...only takes 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours a day to wear the edges off him. I suspect a Border terrier would require a tad more...

But speaking of positive reinforcement, if he turns out to be pretty high drive you might consider prey-drive based training...basically rewarding with some toy time and yourself instead of treats. Drivey dogs will work miracles for a little play time with you.

I figured as much, problem with smart dogs is they control you, not the other way around, but, they let you think you are in control. Gonna be fun, for sure.
I haven't had a puppy for 12 years. Hopefully I can still keep up.
