Anybody got the make/models for any or all of the peep sights that will fit the early 1950's 336s?
Sidemount type, or tang mount.. I cant seem to find any good reference for this information.
thanks, dave

I bought a Williams side mount sight for my 1949 336 SC. I'll see if I can find the model #

I have two older 336 Marlins with Williams receiver sights. They both mount in the factory tapped holes on left side of receiver. I am looking at the vintage Fool Proof box one came in and it has "MODEL F-P 94-36" indicating it will work for both Winchester 94 and Marlin 336. Bruce

Check Midway USA website. Here is their description of applications for the FP receiver sight. Old Shooters Bible would show earlier sights like Lyman and Redfield. Bruce
Williams FP-94/36 Receiver Peep Sight Winchester Top Eject 94, 55, 63, 64, 65, 9422 Marlin 36, 336, 444, 44 Magnum, 93, 1895, 1895G and Sears

A Lyman 66LA will work also. http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/sights/66-receiver-peep.phpIf you want simalar vintage to your rifle, the Lyman 56LA was made for the 336 Marlin till the late '50s when the 66 was introduced

Thanks, this vintage sight information is very helpful. I am indeed trying to match the vintage of the rifle if possible. dave

Dear Dave:
You might want to look for a Lyman 56 LA as mentioned, which was the period sight for your Marlin 336.
They come up on Gunbroker and E-bay from time to time. The prices range from $125-$200.
Presently I have two, one for a Winchester 71/94/1895 and another mounted on my Marlin 39A. They were exceptionally well made, and are easily adjustable.
Sincerely,
Chris Bemis

Is there a modern sight that fits the Marlin 36?

If it is drilled and tapped on the side of the receiver then Williams and Lyman both make sights that will fit it. I would stay away from the most recent Lymans though. The new Williams are fine, just have way more sharp edges than the ones made 30 years ago.
Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else.

I just mounted a Williams 5D sight on my F series 336 in 30-30. Does anyone know if I need to install a higher front sight?
