So I suppose the anti-vaccine nutjobs have been having a gleeful field day since the CDC announced the "failure" of this year's flu vaccine to cover the predominant strain of Influenza A sweeping across the planet. Chitt happens. Bunches of folks who got the vaccine are getting sick with this non-covered strain, and I truly feel bad for them, because as I've said before, influenza isn't anything like a "bad cold", as some have asserted. It's some serious chitt that makes you wonder if you should pray that God spare your life, or just take you now.

Anyways, I just got another bulletin from the Texas health authority saying that there is a strain of "Influenza-Like Illness" running through the South like chitt through a goose, and it's almost as bad as influenza, except it's not influenza.

I happen to know about it because I came down with it on Monday and I feel like the proverbial ten pounds of chitt in a five pound bag.

Not that there's anything anybody can do about it, if you get it, you get it. Just sayin' you should watch out. Wash your hands, and if people come to work with this chitt tell them to get their sorry asses home and not infect the whole office. A luxury I don't have, since people come to see ME when they feel like this, which is why I'M sick now, too.

Am I whining? Goddam right I am. Jeez.

sprout came down with something, missed school yesterday but going in today, even though he still feels pretty punky

one of my students went home early day before but back in class

all I can say is if the wife is going to pick it up from the sprout, hope it happens quick and she's over it before her and sprout leave for Hawaii in Feb.

me I don't have time to get sick, if I do, I'm truly hosed, so lots of hand washing for me I spose.

Good luck to you sickos,..stay away from the rest of us. I'm trying to do everything possible to keep from getting it this year, even though I had the non working flu shot.

I even used the salad tongs to open the mail because I think the mail carrier is suspect....

so thankful I'm able to work from home. I do fear for my 78 year old parents who transport my 11 year old nephew to and from school. Any my sister who is a well educated teacher but too dumb or lazy to get a flu shot. Even if they are not 100% effective.

Godspeed to those who are sick.

Doc---thanks for the update.

only thing zinc works for is the common cold....its damn effective against that, but as far as i know doesnt do a thing to any other virus that causes sickness....sure doesnt slow down the flu....

Mine started with body aches a few days before Christmas. Xmas eve and the next couple days spiking a fever around 104.6 . I'd wake up in the middle of the night soaking wet. Then the chest congestion, dry cough. Two weeks ago lower right lung had the crackles...

Still not over this crp.

A local 5 year old kiddo went home from kindergarten a few weeks back with a low grade fever.

48 hours later she died from the flu. Mom never got her child or herself a flu shot.

I came down with something like this on new years day. Took ten days before I cared to do anything and still not up to 100%. A couple friends have gone through the same illness and all report being sicker than they can remember along with a slow recovery.

Doc, did you get a decadron injection, and it seems everyone is championing the benefits of Tamiflu, which i thought had been pretty much debunked years ago.

I did have a patient try it and spent a week in the hospital with a bad reaction to it, which i had never heard of before. I dont know if he ever had previous exposure but i dont think he did.

Tamiflu worked......it works less and less well every year due to viruses adapting to it like bacteria do antibiotics....

Literally every neighbor around me has had a family member or the entire household come down with a documented flu or flu-like virus.
I started with body aches and sinus pain, to deep chest gunk coughed up. Feeling like I've been hit by a truck and left for dead. No fever though. I think we're seeing some massive virus mutations, occurring at an impressive speed. I keep telling people avoid walmart and the casinos. So what did I do? Yep went to walmart about 10 days ago....

Every time I cough it feels like my brain just died a little bit or a lot, can't tell anymore. Have to squeeze my head to keep from passing out. Fever, stopped up sinuses, great green globs of greasy grimey gopher [bleep] in my lungs.

Time to feed the horses puzzies, Im heading out.

Amen brother!!

Wish I had one of those suits Monday.
My employer sent me to a walk in clinic for a random CDL pizz test.
About eight people ahead of me hacking and snotting up everything in sight.
Put on one of those gauze masks they had up at the counter as I was reading the E-Bola warning they had tacked on the glass.

Went thru a bottle of hand sanitizer when I got in my work truck. If I had a 55 gallon drum of it I would have jumped in.
Scary stuff this year indeed!
