Ziggy:
I started hunting in Colorado in 1979 and there have been late season hunts offered on private land for as long as I have been hunting here.
Those late season (December & January) hunts are generally in response to game damage claims filed by landowners. The elk come down out of the high country and into the farmers fields when driven down by heavy snow and frozen water sources. The elk damage pastures and hay stacks. One of the provisions for a landowner to receive game damage payments is that they MUST allow hunters to hunt on their property during the late season. So it should be easy to obtain permission to hunt on some of that private land. Just contact the local game managers in the Gunnison Parks & Wildlife office to get the names and contact info for land owners who have been given game damage payments. Generally those late season hunts are for cows only.

Ziggy, There is a 4th season public hunt in 53. You must not be looking at the right codes. Try looking for hunt codes like E-M-053-04-R for a bull or E-F-053-04-R for a cow.
4th season hunts are by draw or leftover only, no more OTC licenses.

I hunted 53 12 years in a row, mostly archery a long time ago. It's only a couple of hours away.

That's cool, found an area that looked promising can't wait. When I seen that it was private property only I got bummed out and started calling all the land owners but it really wasn't where I wanted to hunt. Apparently public land hunting in 4th season is open...I'm stoked
