http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/1-...-doolittle-raiders-dies-at-94/ar-AA8KsWNSEATTLE Lt. Col. Edward Saylor, one of four surviving Doolittle Raiders who attacked Japan during a daring 1942 mission credited with rallying American morale during World War II, has died. He was 94. Rod Saylor says his father died of natural causes on Wednesday in Sumner, Washington. Saylor was a flight engineer-gunner who volunteered to fly the risky mission that sent B-25s from a carrier at sea in April 1942 to attack Tokyo. The raid launched earlier than planned and risked running out of fuel before making it to safe airfields. He grew up on a ranch in Brusett, Montana, and enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1939. He served in the Air Force for 28 years before retiring as a lieutenant colonel. Saylor was awarded the Medal of Honor.
...Actually Sycamore, you are sort of right....

I watched their final reunion on TV last year.
We were privileged to be on the planet at the same time as men of their caliber.

Rest In Peace, Lt. Col Saylor. My dad was a navigator/radioman on a C46, flying cargo from India to China, over "The Hump." Dad passed away 4 years ago.
Dad made 76 flights over The Hump.

Much respect for them all. They trained for their mission at Eglin AFB and held their reunion at Fort Walton Beach, FL. my home town. If ever in the area the Armament Museum, just outside the base, is worth visiting.

I absolutely do NOT want to take anything away from this true American Hero, but the article is in error when it says he was awarded the Medal of Honor. Only Lt. Col. Doolittle received that award.
The Doolittle Raiders as a group were awarded a special Congressional Gold Medal last year, but that is a one of a kind award very different from the Medal of Honor.
The heroes of WWII are almost all gone now...my Dad, a Navy veteran of the Battle of Okinawa, passed away two weeks ago. We owe them, and all veterans of all wars, a greater debt than we could ever repay.
