Sorry, Wham, couldn't resist. grin What you did with gasoline was safer than what I did.

Experimenting with fire starters, I had a mix of fatwood shavings and sawdust in parafin/vaseline binder, pressed into pecan or walnut size cakes. I put a lubed cotton ball on top of each cake and seal it watertight. Sometimes it was easier to press the shavings tight if I warmed the mix a bit in a microwave.

Great stuff, but I kept experimenting and threw in some old discard powder in one batch (IMR 4350.) It was a small amount of powder with well separated grains. I was curious if the microwave would ignite the powder so watched when I put a small batch in. Half a dozen grains of powder ignited in a quarter second or less, each separated from the others. Transferred a bowl of six little fires to the sink and put the fire out.

Public service announcement: smokeless powder ignites almost instantly in a microwave!

Some things are best left unsaid.

Since the microwave produces extreme heat, you could have also used the oven.

A guy I know tried cutting 40 S&W with a dremel to get the bullets to pop out. After 177, some of which lit off and he threw them on the floor, one lit before the hole could let out the pressure. No lasting damage but there were stitches and burns. When he got healed, he wore heavy gloves and goggles to finish the rest of the shells!!!!

No, I am not. His son ask me what to do with these (700) loaded shell that are not safe. He did't want to throw them away where someone might find them. I suggested throw them in the river or Raystown Lake. His dad said he could save them.

ps if gun powder is involved in firestarters I simply mix it with acetone and form "cubes" in cube trays and let it sit up.... burns nicely, but slower since its a 'large" pellet instead of many small ones....

Bullet puller would not work. Collet type could not get a grip on the bullet and they broke their inertia due to neck tension.

Wow. Everytime I couldn't grab with collet, I went to inertia, if the first round failed, I'd just seat the bullets a bit deeper to break any kind of seal for whatever reason.

If that didn't work, I"d just rather run em in the press and twist with pliers or toss the whole thing.

I threw away my inertia bullet puller after I had a primer fire. If it had ignited the power, it might have got livelier than I really like.
If the collet puller won't get it out, it's not worth trying to save it. Cases aren't THAT expensive.

Trying to save 1 bullet and 1 charge of powder? Just toss it in the trash and yell BANG.

It was 700+ rounds. Still the ER copay and missed work would have bought alot of loaded rounds.
