Blueberry Muffins....darned good eats. you will need the following:
1 1/2 cups of sifted flour
1/4 cup shortning
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup blueberries

Mix dry ingrediants then stir in shortning, eggs, and milk mix all together untill well blended. Gently add ripe blue berries put in muffin pan and bake at 400 for 20-25 minutes.
Other berries work as well but it is blueberry season.

Winky, a question, all we get down here are commercial or farmed blueberries of course.

How does the flavor compare between wild blue berries and standard commercial?

No idea about the berries where winky lives but the huckleberries here can be better or worse than store bought depending on the weather in any given year. Still picking your own wild berries is a lot of fun. We picked wild Blue Berries in AK and had blueberry pancakes in camp. YUM.

i don't buy commercial blue berries when I have an abundance of the wild type not far from home. One thing I do know is that commercial may have pesticides used on them . i soak my wild berries in salt water to get rid of the worms that are from flies laying eggs on the berry. Kind of disgusting.
the worms seperate from the berries and the berries are nice plump and sweet especially this summer as it has been warmer than usual. One must look out for big furry critters while picking berries, they are not all that keen on sharing their berry patch. let me tell you about the black berries they are so thick this year it is unbeleaveable.
