Probably true.
I have 387xx s.n. underside and 778xx s.n. front. The early one has separate rear sight, the later has molded rear sight. The magazine release changed also.
I don't think Bailey and Carr's books/info disagree, Bailey's has newer/additional information. Kinda like Murray and Royal. whistle

Here are my four. Clockwise 380 cal 1917 Mod #2 date 1921...
32 cal 1907 Military with holster...32 cal 1917 non factory
engraved w/target sight?...32 cal 1907 mod#1 date 1919. The
lanyard ring is not correct. I had a friend put one on, but
if there is any way to get an original, let me know. I sent
Mr. Murray a picture of the engraved one and he said nice but
not factory.

Well perhaps I should take time to show mine
The photo quality is not great been having camera problems
At one time I had 15 1907 1915 & 1917 this is what I have left
How come we have them down under?
They were issued to the French Army, May have come home with
WW1 troops returning
I know I have had 4 that fit into the French contract No's
Still have a holster that you can clearly see the grips & Logo impressed in the leather inside
Also US marines were stationed here WW2 so may have brought them out as personal equipment

Trust me. I know my place. I'm just a little puppy in the grand scheme of things hoping somebody will toss me a bone. Other times I feel like a hungry trout waiting for that shiny piece of metal with all the hooks to pass over so I can strike!!!!! grin grin

That would make for a great New Years celebration! Or 4th of July. I've always wanted to attend a cannon meet, but now I'm getting off topic again.

WWI Minenwerfers, 18-pound field artillery, Bren Carriers, Savage pistols, what's the difference? smile They all go BANG and can put the fear of god in someone!

(Oh for the chance to joy ride in a WWII Bren Carrier! Must've been a hoot to careen across the Northern Desert or Europe in one of those, except of course for Germans shooting at them...)

Note the small 10 round boxes of ammo in these pistol boxes...pretty rare items! shocked

Thanks for posting Steve. I stopped at the old Savage plant on the way home from one of the Savage Fests that was at Jed's. I think the original Savage plant still stands somewhere on the other side of town. It was on the Erie Canal. Did you go to/find it?

Yes, as far as I know it is still standing and occupied. No I did not get to go to it, but that is in the the future. I spend a good deal of time out there.
