Well this all started years ago when I got bit by the 20 ga bug, I got everything ready to go but just could not make myself jump into the 20 water (everybody knows it takes a 12 ga or bigger to kill a turkey). In the last year or so my shoulder has been really giving me fits and I am afraid I might have to get it cut on for the second time. While hunting with Reloader (Ronny) in TX this past year he killed two with his 20 ga at very close range  . Anyway that and my shoulder got me to jump into the water. I started looking for a used 20 to hunt with but was not having a lot of luck at the pawn shops and gun shows finding anything used. I am making my rounds one day and Ronny called me and ask what I was doing, I told him looking for a cheap 20 to hunt with, which lead to the question "why not just my Mossy youth 20 ga"? We talked a little and came to a deal and I picked it up from him in TX on what has turned into our annual deer hunt/swap meet. While waiting on the hunt to come around we found a guy running a deal on Cerakota, so Ronny sent my 20 along with some of his to get coated. Well I saw a gun doedaddy had posted pic's of and it was a Mossy that he had put a Remington Shur Shot stock on. I pm'ed him and ask a few questions, then ordered me one for my new turkey slayer. When I got the Mossberg from Ronny in its new DoDoo brown color (Ronny's words not mine but hey he has twins so I am sure he know of what he speaks) I started to work. I spent about an hour with a dremel tool, sander, files, and other instruments of destruction in order to get the Remington butt stock to mate with the Mossberg. Now when it came to the forearm, making the Remington forearm work on the Mossy would have been akin to a monkey screwing a football. I decided transform the factory forearm into a faux Remington, so off to the bandsaw it went. The results seemed ok up to this point and after a coat or two of paint on the forearm the gun went back together. I was never happy with the way the painted forearm looked so I stripped it back down to bare wood. At this point I have to give Gophert high praise for not ducking my calls,pm's, and text because he talked me thru a DIY hydro-graphic dipping process. I will be the first to admit it is not perfect but it will hunt. While this was all going on I found another lost orphan in the way of a Remington 870 20 ga with a 26 in barrel. After posting I was looking for a butt stock Waddle Whacker came to my rescue and I was able to get rid of the plywood looking factory stock. A little time on the mill was in order for both receivers to get drilled and tapped for the 336 mount, and both got a trigger job and the Burris FF treatment. Now I waiting on the ice to leave so I can see how they shoot the TSS and Fed HW7's I have been sitting on for ever and a day. I present to you my Mossington (or Remberg) and its running mate for the 2015 and beyond hunting season.

Very nice! When you say 336 mount, I assume that's a Marlin 336 mount?

I've built 6 going on 7 20's now. They are a dream to carry in the turkey woods with that 21" barrel!

I've often thought about a 22 inch bbl Benelli M2 in 20 with a pistol grip stock and an optic

You know it, that is one of the first things I ALWAYS do It definitely helps the patterns. I've always been amazed at how you can see the where they stamped the barrel on the inside bore as well as where they welded the rib and how polishing can remove those impressions to make a night polished bright bore. I've often thought about a 22 inch bbl Benelli M2 in 20 with a pistol grip stock and an optic I haven't looked in a while, but Benelli didn't make less than a 24 or maybe 26" barrel on their 20's. I know for a fact they didn't make a pistol grip stock. I started with my M1 20ga and it threw fantastic patterns due to their chrome lined barrels. I wanted a dedicated 20ga to put a red dot on with a pistol grip stock. Those two things drove me to the Remington Youth Model.

The stedi grip will fit the m2 20. And barrels can be shortened

Thanks for that info! I'm thinking I may want to red dot my 20ga and may go this route. Other option is to just use a regular 870 base and something like a TRS-25.

20s work well on Turkeys. Doc White (of White rifles) used a 28ga muzzle loader very effectively on them

Very cool. I have been thinking about doing a 20ga 870 myself. I've been running one for years now. I love it. It's light, it patterns great with the loads I like, and last year I popped one at 48 yards with it. No reason to switch.

What does your 870 weigh set up like this?
