okay, it isn't like I don't have enough pistols to shoot.
But, I have been eying the .500S&W and the .460.
The .460 seem interesting from a velocity standpoint and the ability to use .45long colt, .454 casul etc. The .500 can be downloaded when not trying to take out an elephant.
Throw in a four inch barrel. Is this nuts?
I do have some old vacquero's and a .460 rowland conversion, not to mention the .44magnums etc.
Anybody using the two above cartridges?

I shoot both. Mine are in a 10.5" PC config. I like the long barrels for steadier shooting. They are very accurate and very shootable. I like Barnes 200's in the 460 and 275's in the 500. Have also shot 700's in the 500 (and 325's, 350's and 440's). I plan on doing some more load developement for them now that the weather has cooled off a bit. A 4" barrel wouldn't interest me but that's what makes the world go 'round.

What's your Rowland in? Vaquero? I have a 1911 Roland conversion for my Kimber. I haven't shot it in a while but just got in 500 Starline's for it and have 100 rounds loaded and ready to go. When I did some load work for it it ran the 230's at the top of the chart the best. Gotta like that! Now to muscle that spring in! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I bought the kit out of brownells a year or so ago, and put it in a norinco 1911A1. The thing works just fine, and I haven't seen any issues with the norinco as of yet. Mostly i have ran 200grain xtp's through it, and they are quite impressive when they hit something. I think I will eventually move the kit into a springfield 1911. The xtp's were fired one time as a experiment into some steel. The top of a 50 gallon drum, placed against a roofers air compressor tank, both pretty stout steel. It went through the drum top, and blew a hole through the compressor tank. I recovered one of the flattened bullets and it looked like a round circle of lead.
I am going to line up some milk jugs full of water one of these days. I have shot three in a row with a 1000fps 200grain jhp out of a .45acp, and it was flat destructive.
With the extra velocity of the rowland, it should be even more so. I also need to run some solids through it and check for deep penetration. I bought the starline brass like you.

I should probably get another 1911 to mate the Rowland to and leave it as such. Maybe someday.

I've shot Golden Sabers outta mine and that's what I have loaded now. I'd have no worries sending one at most any critter at the appropriate range. It's a good round that makes a 1911 even better when more power is required.
