In the FWIW department, I shipped a Mathews S-2 in a Plano hard bowcase to a new owner. I packed the inside with bubble wrap, and TAPED several loose items in bags to the bow bubble wrapping, and had arrows in the bowcase arrow holder. The outside of the case was bare, but well covered in strapping tape.
When it arrived, the bowcase was broken open on the end, about a football size hole. All bagged items and the arrows were gone, and the cam was bent and the edges broken. UPS paid the claim, no issues, but the result was a repair job for the new owner.
I've shipped 4-5 bows in the past year to 280-Ack for tuning, all have been in a padded case in a factory or a standard bow-sized box. He has shipped the bows back to me in the same manner, no issues, and no damage.
So, I'd recommend a bubble wrap and sturdy bow box from your local dealer over the hard bowcase, but YMMV.
Shipping is generally around $40 (UPS, USPS, FEDEX) for a private seller, and about $25-30 (UPS,FEDEX) for seller with a commercial shipping account.
