...and have ever wondered, an electric pasta maker is really great. Bought a Lello 2 years ago, haven't used store-bought pasta products since. This stuff makes easily, tastes great, freezes well cooked or raw, reheats better than any I've tried.
Pre-cooked and stored in ziplocks, it's great for the RV.
The machines can be expensive, but well-made and well worth it. All kinds of possibilities, just thought I'd share.

The hand crank machines work really well also. Nothing compares to home made pasta.

used to use the roller type, great flat shapes. This thing's an actual extruder, mixes the dough then pushes out the shapes.
Angel hair tonight, with eggplant parm a/o marinara fresca.
Best macaroni ever. Very little labor, too.

I have 6 different dies, just choose the shape. many more available. Penne, 2 sizes linguini, fettucine, spaghetti, etc.
Can get dies for eggroll wrappers/lasagna, etc. I put 1.5 or 3 cups of flour in, turn it on, put 2 or 4 eggs in, let it knead, open a "Gate" and cut it off as it comes out. It's really neat, one of the best toys I ever got. Cleanup- let it dry, knock the dry stuff off.

leanwolf, it's probably not better if you just want to mix in pork 'n beans over the campfire, but for everything else...
gives a whole new dimension to life around here, which was already pretty darn good. For perspective- the Mrs. and I can have, say, spaghetti with from-scratch EVERYTHING to feed 10 good eaters, if we have an hour or two warning...

I got this one from chefscatalog.com- was on huge sale at the time, bought one more for one of our boys, then they ran out.
They might have them again. There were 2 sizes, I have the smaller one. If I knew then, I'd have bought them out.
