I read this book many years ago, and plan to read it again. It's an account by a Russian surveyor, of his work in Siberia, and his native guide, Dersu. This took place prior to the Russian Revolution. Kurosawa (director of Seven Samurai, Yohjimbo, etc) directed the movie, Dersu Uzala, which won an Oscar for best Foreign Language film. As almost always, the book is better than the movie, due to the time limits of a film to tell the same story, as a book.
