Anyone picked up any elk sheds yet? My buyer told me he got a call from a guy in Helena that has found several fresh drops already. I have never found an elk antler in February but I live at much higher elevation. End of March to end of April is the golden timeframe in my neck of the woods. How bout you?

Wasting your time around here before late March / early April. The deer are still packing around here and usually drop 3rd week of March.

Was at the refuge in Jackson Hole this weekend, maybe 10% had dropped and a couple stragglers were had already dropped one. They said the count was about 1700 bulls so it was a pretty good population to stare at.

Still waiting. Been looking at several but so far nobody has showed up with a fresh set in our neck of the woods.

Deer are pretty well cleaned off, but elk will go a bit longer here. I've seen mature bulls with gear as late as 5 May in this neighborhood.

Two weeks ago I watched 4 big Blacktail bucks in some rimrock country.

The largest was a heavy 4 point that had shed his left side. The others were still intact.

I'll go soon to see if I can pick up their sheds.

Have picked a lot of elk bone over the years.
The earliest for me was Valentines day.

My Son and I were out for s couple hours Saturday evening around a ranchette we have permission to hunt and found nothing. We even had a dog with us.

Timbermaster: My rancher friend and I found exactly 10 (ten) Whitetails sheds on his ranch today and 1 (one) Moose shed which I found in a willow patch.
The single Moose shed weighed 9.8 pounds and is quite brown.
All the Whitetail sheds were smallish.
Saw one 10 point Whitetail with both antlers still intact?
Each creature is an individual - I guess.
I also am waiting another 10 days or so before humping the foothills for Elk sheds here at 5,400' elevation and up.
Good luck to all "shedders" (shed Hunters).

Found 3 within about 300 yards of one another today.
2 were last years and one older.

Lucky for me they were all 'rights' and could nest together, otherwise I don't think I could have carried them from where I was.

Found a small 5 pt elk shed. Likely picked it up within days of dropping. Found it in a place I don't usually find sheds so it's a special one for me.

Came across this pair of 7x7's yesterday where the bull shook them off.
Nice to know that there are still a few places left in CO where a bull can get that big.
