I have a 6.5 RUM that I load Sierra 107s the most, all I did is load min load data from 7mm RUM and went from there. What does the LN stand for. RL25 is my go to powder for that chambering.

Thanks, makes sense about the longer bullets.

And LN/long neck makes sense on the RUMLN name. Well see how close we got.

My powder suggestion is based on 26 Nos experience. I guess going lighter 107's, faster powder would work OK.

With heavier bullets, the Vulcan 20mm type powders seem to work better than .50 BMG burn rate or magnum type powders.

Ben at Hornady named the cartridge because I didn't have a name for it yet. He told me the "LN" stands for, you guest it, long neck.

Mine has a reg 30 deg shoulder and standard neck for a RUM, what are the specs on your case, actually I have a 25 cal and 6mm RUM they are very entertaining to say the least.

Well lets just say I have an unnatural love affair with RUMs,
these are barrels that I have and swap onto various Rem 700s and savage 110s, the 700s have a barrel nut like the savages It is called a Remage, the list includes, 6mm, 25, 6.5, 270, 7mm, 300, 338Edge, 358, 375, 416, and a 458, I have 2 300 cals one 12 twist and one 17 twist "not a typo" they are all varmint profiles from 30 to 33 inches long, and start the taper about 6 inches down so there is plenty of meat left for setbacks also called rethroating. speaking of which I get way more shots than you would think the secret is don't over heat the barrel. I don't use 50BMG powder it is to dirty Retumbo gets the job done.
I have custom dies now but in the beginning, I used 243 wssm 25 wssm for the neck and shoulder and 6.5 wsm and 270 wsm for those neck and shoulders, and a gutted 7mm RUM when full length sizing.
anything that exit the barrel in any of those cals, comes out well over 4000 fps even 115 Dtacs. even if some of the calibers are close believe me they are all quite distinct in the way they shoot, I always get the WHY? and all they other negativity that comes with it, you know what frankly my dear I don't give a _____ it works for me that's all I care about.

The classic answer to "WHY" is "BECAUSE".

I was just curious is you were hitting a performance ceiling with the most overbore rounds.

Actually that is not what I have found at all, more powder more FPS the gains are less mind you but still there, I started with a 6mm-06AI and then 6mm Mach IV, it is a 7mm Rem mag necked down to 6mm, and thought it could not get better than that guess what it does 6mm RUM. my 6mm WSM is also a blast, another example is my 22-243 Middlestead it holds 50gr of powder, then I necked down a 6.5 X 55 swede to 22 X 55 that holds 55gr there was a difference and finally my 22-06AI with it's 60gr+ is the king of 22s that chambering also is a fond of retumbo.I can shoot 40s all the way
through 80s at speeds you would not believe.

what are the specs on your case,

Nothing more than a 7Rum necked to 6.5 with the shoulder pushed back about .090". Holds 109 grains of water. The neck is about .350" long.

Didn't you say once that you have a 27 inch barrel? I'm thinking you will wind with RL 25, or maybe 22 for max velocity in that length barrel.

I have some 27" barrels in other calibers, they started out longer but have had setbacks, but all my RUMs are 30 to 33 inches.

I like long barrels on Ruger No. Ones. A 30 inch barrel leaves overall length the same as a 26 inch on a bolt action.

The long barreled 7 Rum was the only one that I used the slower powders in. The 300 and 338 in 700 actions and 26 inch barrels worked best with RL 22 and IMR 7828, which is why I think Ringman will wind up in that neigborhood.

But... I'd still start out with a case full of Retumbo.

Actually I am a fan of lighter bullets and little to no bullet drop, I am always looking for ways to send them faster usually it involves more powder.

I started with 7mm RUM min loads with the same bullet weight and worked my way up, now I have gone past the 7 Rum Max loads and am just starting to see pressure signs, let me tell you it is one nasty round.
