Did anyone see the add for Sierra Bullets in this months (maybe last) Guns & Ammo magazine? If someone could scan it and post it I think it would be a good conversation piece. I was looking at the magazine at the Barber shop that's why I can't post it. Basically what they are saying is that the Game King is a better buy than the premium bullets because they are more accurate, retain about the same amount of weight but cost half of what a premium bullet costs.
I have seen a lot of guys post pictures of Sierra's after they were recovered and they didn't look like they retained that much weight to me?

Yeah, when you keep the Gamekings slow they work okay. They should repeat that test with an MV of 3100+ fps..................

I'm not going to bash Sierrras, but the add is kind of ridiculous. The obvious truth is in the fine print. Muzzle velocity 2650 with 165 BTSP and impact was at 200 yds. At the impact speed most any bullet would retain most of it's weight I would imagine. Sierra GK's are what they are...usually very accurate cup and core bullet that performs fine at moderate velocites on game. In my magnum, I prefer Partitions. In a 7mm-08 give me the 140 GK.

Fineprint reveals 100yd impact.
I like the 7-08 too much,to stuff a SGK down it's throat......................

Judt to see what happens I am going to run the 150 grain Gameking thru my 7 Remington magnum at around 3100 fps. Where I will use it there will not likely be any short shots though.

Before the internet deer didn't care what you shot them with. Now you have to have a $2 solid copper bullet or they will bounce off.

No, the Sierra's are not bad choices as long as you are not driving them too fast. I use 150 grn Winchester PP bullets in my 30-06 for deer and they do a great job because they are not being pushed too fast. For my 270 WSM I use Nosler Partitions because they stay together when being pushed well over 3000 FPS when they hit their intended target.

I'm changing my 7-08 to triple shocks this fall. Too much splat at 25yds for me.

I used Nosler Ballistic Tips in my 7-08, you want to talk about splat. I am changing over to Hornady Interbonds this year.

Well I have 150 of them to find out so I guess we will see. On deer size game I think they will do all right.... I think. If not they are always good for killing paper.

Deer are easy to kill. It doesn't really matter too much what bullet you shoot them with. However, that is not the case for elk, moose, bear, even hogs................

I like the 7-08 too much,to stuff a SGK down it's throat...................... OOPS <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> ! My bad. I guess the fine print was too fine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> . Big Stick, I did quite a bit of "wet phone book" bullet testing with the 7-08. My loads all had MV of around 2750. At 100yds, the 140 GK's performed textbook. Nice mushrooms, retained about 75% of it's weight on average and penetrated well. I know this doesn't account for real world performance on game and there aren't any ribs or shoulder bones in the books <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> , but they did what they were supposed to.
