Geee.........let's see......the tribes start netting walleye and now we are graciously allowed to keep one fish up there. Hmmmmm.........But of course the DNR says the nets have NOTHING to do with the drop in numbers. Sure am glad I don't own of the dwindling number of resorts up there. The friggin' tribe's gonna own the whole west side of the lake here shortly.

If I go up to Big Muddy it will be for smallmouth and northerns. I could have a lot of fun with those big ol' toothy critters.

I guess 90% of Red Lake isn't enough for the tribes.

I sure do like the walleye sandwich at Culver's but not at the risk of no fishing.

Gull Lake is gonna get crowded and I was going to go this year.

Do any of you MN guys have any experience on Many Points Lake, northeast of Detroit Lakes? My Son's BSA Troop is going to summer camp there in July and I wondered how the fishing was. The DNR survey makes it look like a blue gills and norther pike fishery, which several other species in lessor quantities thrown in.

Gull lake already is crowded. I won't go out there on a Friday or Saturday, I wait until sunday afternoon or a weekday evening.

Don't really see how any resort is going to survive on Mille Lacs.

Yeah, I'm thinking about just staying off the big hotspots for the opener and waiting until Monday to hit the water. All the lakes will thin out quite a bit on Sunday night. Sure do feel sorry for the resort owners, launch services, restaurants, and other support services up in Onamia, Garrison, and the likes. It's going to get worse before it gets better. There's no way I'll drive up there for one walleye. They better hope the pike and smallmouth fishing can somehow carry them, but quite frankly, I don't see it taking up the slack. Walleye is king up here, and folks want to take home enough for a modest fish fry.

I'm taking up chasing muskie this year. I'll head up to Mille Lacs for that, and some smallmouth, but I won't bother trying for walleyes.

Many Point is a fantastic lake for all species, but in July the bass fishing is perhaps the thing to do then. The lake offers both shallow water bass fishing as well as deep weed line fishing. And when you fish the deep weedlines there you never know what you will hook! The Boy Scout camp is a dandy by the way....
