Hi,

I know the Savage Company made other items beside firearms but did they make pedal bikes? I seen an old bike with a Indian head badge that sure looked like the Savage logo.

Probably an "INDIAN" bicycle,manufactured by Hendee(SP) manufacturing co. these were made in the early 1900,s at the same time they were making Indian motocycles.

The search I come back with says G N Gonzales of New Orleans, with "TradeMark of Savage" and a indian profile. G N Gonzales was a big dealer in Indian motorcycles.. So...

Loggah is probably right on what he says. But it is confusing.

The badges on those show Baker, Hamilton & Pacific.

So... Store brand bike?

Savage Arms did have at least a couple patents dealing with bicycles, one for a shaft drive bicycle US2378634, and USD142522 ,but I do not think they ever produced that, or any other bicycle.

There is a bicycle frame that came up for sale recently that was advertised as "RARE ANTIQUE SAVAGE ARMS Co MA CRUISER BICYCLE" (and is currently for sale so I didn't list the link) but Savage Arms had nothing to do with it, that Savage labeled bike was marketed through D. B. Harris and most sources say it was manufactured for them by H. P. Snyder who made bikes under a number of different names including RollFast which I believe used the same frame. Some might recognize the name plate as the same as those pictured in the back of Bailey Browers Pistol book, but I think he no longer thinks Savage Arms had anything to do with those bicycles.

The logo on those name plates was a registered trade mark of D. P. Harris and has no link to Savage Arms - D. P. Harris Savage trademark

I had Savage bicycle name plate at 2014 Fest and Manitowish Waters Fest. It only has "SAVAGE" and "made in USA" along with Indian head on it. It came from bicycle with no mention of any connection with Savage Arms.

Chester Hussey is the named inventor on those shaft-drive bike (very cool) patent documents, any association with Savage arms there? Seems he had a go at lawn mowers too!

Here is one marked Savage MFG. Co. that I have had in my photo files for a long time. It is from the 1890's or 1900's. I have not been able to connect it to Savage Arms.
