So what's that mean for the hunter? No known packs, he immediately reported it, but it's protected. He in trouble or is Colorado more common sense about these things?

While technically there's no mens rea (mental state: intentionally, knowingly, negligently, recklessly, etc) in most wildlife violations, I'd be shocked if he was charged. I have no personal knowledge of the case though. Just my view from here.

Well, there will be plenty more...

The MI DNR is pointing its finger at bad winters for a deer herd so low that they tossed out canceling season to scare up support...

During our spring scouts we didn't find a fresh winter-kill and not many last year either. The evidence to us suggests that the deer have been taking the hit before winter gets there....

Predators need to managed, not ignored.

Good luck with Denver...

They are already here. I personally know of 2, that you won't be hearing about in the news. Some folk don't feel the need to report/advertise, and know how to handle a shovel.......

My aunt claims to have seen one on her place in Grand county. I always figgered she'd seen one of the numerous coyotes on the place.

You don't need to be a wildlife biologist to tell a Wolf from a Coyote. wink

There have been two confirmed wild wolves killed in Missouri in the last decade. One was attacking livestock and killed by the landowner, the other was killed by a deer hunter who claimed he thought it was a coyote. The first weighed slightly over 100 pounds, the second a bit over 80 pounds. DNA revealed they came from the upper Midwest wolf packs, Wisconsin if I remember correctly. No charges were filed in either instance.

For years the DNR have been telling us that there are no wolf breeding pairs or packs in southwest Wisconsin. Guess what?

A farmer cleared brush and trees from some pasture land last fall and set the pile on fire this spring. Soon he heard some whimpering sounds and a adult wolf and three pups came flying out of the burning pile.

Colorado will wait until 50% of its elk become wolf shat before they do anything about it. That's what we did. Get ready Colorado!

Go to Yellowstone and find a coyote then listen to all the tourists talking about the wolf.
