For good fictional treatment of World War Two submarine warfare, read CDR Edward L Beach's Run Silent, Run Deep and Dust on the Sea.
Both novels are technically rich, too. As Beach says in the preface to Dust on the Sea, "... the reader will know more about how to operate a submarine of World War II after he finishes this book than he knew before."
"Good enough" isn't.

Ken, My fathers ship, the USS Kidd DD 661, was used in the making of the Hollywood movie "Run Silent, Run Deep." Talk about a neat history of a US Naval Ship of War, the "Pirate Ship" has a colorful and interesting history. The only modern war ship of the Navy to fly the skull and crossbones! Dad was pretty proud of this old tincan and saw extensive action aboard her.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
