I'm thinking way "out of the box" here. I know of the occurances of detonation when using reduced loads with very slow burning powder, so I pack in in!!! I have an abundance of Mil. surplus 50BMG powder. I've used it numerous times in my .375AI for fire forming/plinking. I fill the case, seat a 270 Hornady and have fun. Velocity is only a little over 1800fps, but it's scarey accurate. Leaves some unburned powder in the bore, but all seems well. So, here's the question - What's the thoughts on a 300 gr. cast, full case, hot primer, heavy crimp for a "plinking" load in a 460 S&W. Death Wish or should it work? I need to burn some of this powder!! memtb

Great question. In theory you have a potentially viable load with the mag primer. 50BMG is pretty far away from the typical burn rate used for the 460SW. Interestingly, the reduced velocity loads use Trailboss which is substantial faster than your preferred range. So, essentially you are going the entirely opposite direction in terms of burn rate yet with a denser powder. If detonation is the main concern my understanding of that phenomenon is low case volume with relatively fast burning powders. I wonder if QuickLoad would bring back any results? I'd probably go for it.......
