Lotta guys around here use the BT-99.. They will smoke clays a long ways out. They're sturdy and dependable. Just make sure you clean them well after each use and ensure you leave the chamber well oiled or you'll have rust in no time..

Only problem I have with them is they just don't fit me without serious stock modifications.. SKB's on the other hand, fit me like a glove.

I went with an SKB combo (I too am new to trap). Last year I bought a Beretta 391 par. comb and shot it all last year (my first year). This winter I bought the combo. Still working on getting everything set just right.
The BT-99 has been around for along time and is a great gun.

pullit, did you get the M85TSS combo? I obtained one of the first sets of those to come out and it's been a great firearm. I bought the 34/32 combo w/adj. rib and cheekpiece. I have it set for 70/30 patterns since I prefer a somewhat flatter shooting gun.

Won a bunch of turkey shoots with this thing.

That is the very same rig I have. 34/32 with the unsingle barrel. I am going tomorrow and see about getting a custom stock built for it. I have done some horse tradeing with a stock maker and so I should come out ok.
I know how I am and I will not leave the adj. comb alone. That is why I want a custom stock, fit to me.

Started out years ago with an 1100 which I really liked. Tried a BT99 and bought the first one I could find. I shot a 24 with it on the first round. Never got much better but it wasn't the gun's fault. From there I went to the Citori Trap model, (for doubles and other fun stuff). The 99 shares the title of
"Safe Queen" along with a couple others.

I know from our experience that we all went to multi-rounders eventually. Mom and I with Citori's, daughter with an 1100 and son with an 870.

When we started International Doubles and Sporting Clays everybody, (almost), went with O/U's.

CDNN Investments has a smoking deal right now on an Antonio Zoli trap gun that would be worth looking at. They have a single shot for around 1k and a double for $1,699.00. I picked up the double with the adjustable comb; just too hard to turn down.

Best regards,

Two things you MUST consider. What events will this firearm be used, singles or doubles? If there's even a chance you'll try doubles, you obviously need to forget about the BT-99. Second, the fit of the firearm is everything. If it doesn't fit correctly and you have to worry about eye/rib position every time you shoot, finding a super deal on a firearm means nothing if you can't hit the target.

Many of the BT users here have at least two shotguns; the BT for singles from 16-27, and an O/U for that plus doubles and/or turkey shoots..

What you need to do is make your use decision first, then go to a well-stocked gun shop where you can shoulder several different makes/models and see which one comes up to position the most naturally. That's where you start.

I use the single barrel on my M85TSS SKB about 90% of the time. When and if I participate in something like doubles or games I'll just switch to either a M700 or M800 O/U and leave the SB alone..

It never hurts to have a spare on hand anyway in case something happens to your main firearm during a shoot. Last summer I had a trigger spring break on my M800 during a shoot. Since I always bring at least one or two spares I just grabbed a backup and kept on truckin'.. It's the first trigger spring I've ever replaced on any of my SKB's in nearly 35 years.. Crap happens, and it usually happens at the worst time..

It will be interesting to learn what you actually end up with..

Best to you.
