Have decided to open up the choke on my Ithaca 37 from full to modified..I would like to have this done in either Wyoming of Montana..Anyone out there suggest someone..My old gunsmith did a couple for me, but he retired..My new one only does rifle work..thanks..

Wish I could help you with Wyoming or Montana, but cant.

You probably know about Briley in Texas. Usually fairly quick turn-around and you can be almost positive it will be done right the first time. Get their screw in chokes and you would have all the bases covered.

battue, thanks,I have thought about Briley, but this old 37 is a solid rib model with a 30 in. barrel..have two other older pumps with the same choke and barrel length..Since the Ithaca is so light I figured it would make the better upland gun..and having some choke removed would be less expensive than tubes..thanks though..Hope the bird hunting is going well..Was out for grouse here in Mich. but no luck..Windy and cold..

Briley will open up a choke also, you don't have to go the tube route.

Went out Saturday for 5hours. Hot and only flushed four birds and no shooting.
Should have spent more time down lower and near water, but that thought didn't hit me until the day was winding down. Good part was I found some big time clear cuts with a lot of edge cover.

Another ploy is to try some spreader loads. They might surprise you.

I found that jockeying one's loads often precludes having to cut steel, and have started leaving my chokes alone and working with what I got.

gnoahhh, I have looked at spreader loads..since I reload, I could develop some..that might be a good way to travel..at times in Wy. a full choke is great..but at the tail end of sage grouse season, it cost me several good shots..usually the birds are a good bit wilder and a full is a good way to go..but this year after a good bit of chasing around, I finally got into a covey and they came up pretty close..my mod. 870 would have been perfect..I really hate to change this 37 as it is a great clay gun from the 27 yd. line..will check this out..thanks again.

I will second having Mike Orlen do it. Excellent work, fairly priced, and a fast turn around. He opened up an 1100 LT-20's full choke and lengthened the forcing cone for me and I was back in business in no time.

Les Hovencamp was the head Ithaca smith before they shutdown, out on his own now. He can do it, or sell you a modified barrel.
