I've decided to try the Leupold VX2 3x9 CDS scope and one is now on the way.
My understanding of how this works is that when I give Leupold my data information one of the things I'll tell them is what yardage I want to zero at. My inclination is to have this set for 200 yds. This would allow me to use the scope as I always have and the CDS dial would be available for ranges longer than 300 yds.
Have any of you used this system and if so what yardage did you have your zero set at. If different than 200 yds. what are you using and why?
Robert.

I had mine zero set at 200 yards also. It works great for me to 600 yards.

I use my traditional 250 yd zero and go from there.

I like a 100-yd baseline zero with a turret-equipped scope for a few reasons... but with a zero-stopped turret limiting you to one revolution, and with your stated preference for a familiar 200-yd zero, it's a no-brainer to go with the 200.
The CENTER will hold.

I have mine set up for 200 yards also. I think I'll have it set at about 250 when I get out of the pickup and adjust from there if I need to. My 270 loaded with 140 grain Accubonds will go out to about 675 with one full revolution of the turret.

rr, I'm shooting 140s out of my .270 which is the rifle this scope is going on. My WAG was that I should be able to get out between 6-700 yds. Thanks for your info.

You can run the calculations on the JBM ballistic calculator, then you'll know exactly how far you can dial out on the CDS with various sight in distances.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

Usually 200yds with standard chamberings, and 300yds with 257Roy/300Rum.....puts me closer to 1k w/ the CDS

I used 100. Can still dial it to 200 when you're hunting. But I can see using 200 if you're trying to get more dial capability out of the CDS. Even using a 100 and shooting a 338 Fed I can dial in nearly 600. More than enough for my purposes.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA
