Are these Binos really comparable to the Zeiss Victory FLT 10X42 or Swaro SLC HD 10X42's that cost twice as much?

I bought a pair with a 10% off coupon and feel they're great for $900. I think they compare favorably, especially at half the price.

YES. I have the non HD 8 power meostars and they look almost the same as the swaro's. In fact, these gave a buddy a little heartburn when he put his $2000+ swaros up against them and the clarity was the same. The swaro's gathered light a little more, but not nearly enough to justify. I guarentee, you put these up against the others and they wil hold their own.

A buddy of mine just bought them over the Swaro SLC HDs and he had $2000 to spend. He just couldn't justify $ 1000 difference for slightly less weight. He couldn't see an optical difference and is as happy as a pig in slop since he saved $1000.

They sure look nice. They must have borrowed Swarovski's rubber coating technique. They look and feel like upper end binos.

I had the Euro HD's side by side with my SLC HD's laat March on an aoudad hunt. The SLC's are little better IMO, but not $1000 better by a long shot. I was very impressed with the Euro HD, both in 10x42 BTW.

I bought a pair and really have been impressed. 10x42 hd.
I have had them and my 8x30 slc out at night and the slc are just a little sharper.
I'll use both and like them both.
Just depends on terrain for which one I'll take.

I was a Meopta dealer years ago, and all of my customers were amazed at the quality verses the price. Their prices have increased considerably since then, but so have all the others. That said, if you have it in your mind that you want the Zeiss or Swarovski binoculars, buy them and you'll be happy. If you just want excellent binoculars, get the Meoptas.

I wonder just exactly what it is they don't have, or what it is that swarovski and zeiss do have, that make them different?

Or, to put it another way, just exactly what costs $1000 more to make the zeiss or the swarovski.

I wonder the same thing. I have a swaroski z5 and it is by far the best glass I've had. I had a Meopta that was good but wasnt as clear and sharp as the swaroski. I hope to buy a new set of binos next year so keep the feed back coming

Very good. I have both the 8x and 10x versions. After looking at many different high end binocs, I could in no way justify spending the extra money on some of the other European brands.

I think alot of it is just name value.
Like a JD tractor is worth more because it's Green, been around for 150 years and everyone knows what John Deere is. Name brand tractors aren't REALLY to much different and in my opinion in John Deere's case, they let the other guys develop technolgy first and snipe it off later, if it works well.
Meanwhile folks keep buying the "inferior" JD tractor in most cases, as
they have a perception of value from it's history.
I think Swarovski may be in somewhat the same position.

Point well made.

Hopefully the Meopta is a notch or two above that infamous Russian tractor, the Belarus... frown

Does anyone know if Meopta plans to make an HD version of the 8X? Why they don't already have one baffles me.

I watched the classifieds here and picked up the Victory FL T 10x42 for about the same price as the Euro HD. I'm pleased with how things turned out!

I also have the Meopta pre HD 8X42,s and find them as good as my brother's 8.5X42 EL's and my Nikon 10X42 EDG's. Throw in Leicas and Ziess's- they're all great to my eyes.

Those are fighting words, if I've ever heard them.
