For those that have/had one in the 3-12 flavor:

How much elevation do these have ?

Are the clicks in mil or moa?

This scope fits my size/weight constraints but I can't find definitive answers to the above questions. Any help is appreciated.

I have a PMII with his ART reticle. Excellent reticle, IMO.

I have a 3-12x50 precision hunter. I am at work now but when I get home tonight I will be able to help a little more accurately.

Memory tells me the adjustments are Mil and each click is .1 mil. Also if memory serves me correctly the total vertical travel is only around 24 MOA after you convert it.

I installed mine in Burris Rings that would give me some adjustment so I could get a negative 10 MOA in the mount, allowing me to get the 7mm mag rifle to 600 yd. + or - with the limited vertical adjustment.

This question is the same one I asked of Schmidt and Bender via NECG in November 2012:

"I have several PH Scopes, most with turrets that have 32 total clicks, but one has 48 total clicks. Based on measurement in my shop, these scopes have a maximum turret adjustment of 2.4 Mils. It follows then 2.4 Mils/32 clicks = 0.075 Mil/click and 2.4 Mil/48 click = 0.05 Mil/click. Please confirm these calcs with the engineering team."

I did receive responses to my inquiries and request for confirmation, but nothing definitive. I gave up in December 2012 after several back and forths with the fatherland via NECG. Without any specs from Schmidt and Bender the click values must be calibrated at the range.

OK, when I got home I did a little more reseach on the S&B Precision Hunter 3-12x42 that I have. I have not had the scope out of the safe in two years and my memory was inaccurate.

The 3-12x42 precision hunter has a 1/5" (.2") or 1/2 of a centimeter at 100 yards. The dial has 48 graduations (clicks)for a total adjustment of 9.6 inches. This is limited by the dial which only has a little less than one turn from the zero stop.

I am unable to find my notes on the total adjustment available to zero the scope. I am still looking into that. I do know that a 0 MOA base would not let me have enough vertical to use the whole dial after zero, so as I said earlier I used the Burris Signature rings with the offset inserts to give me the room I needed to use the dial to its maximum. A 10 MOA base would do the same on a short action Remington.

I purchased the scope because 9.6" over a 2" high zero at 100 yards would allow my 7mm mag to get me to 600 yards and that was all I need to hunt or to do my long range (for me) shooting.

If you want to shoot past 600 this is not the scope for you.

I'm very curious, how do you know this?

VaHunter's findings are consistent with mine, 0.2" per click. I have a 3-12x42 PH on a 7-08AI. Max range with turret is about 600 yards with 100 yd zero depending on ballistics. YOu can get a bit further with a 200 yard Zero. Great optics, marginal turret functionality.

I was afraid of the lack of adjustment in this scope. I had a 4-16x50 a few years ago and it suffered the same issue. I cannot believe the erectors in these scopes are so limited.

Ive gone the way of mil/mil and will not go back to anything moa or IPHY.

So the search continues for a .1 mil/mil, FFP, 30mm tube, 12x to 15x top end in the 20oz range.

The click value was published in small print somewhere on there web site a few years ago, before they stop making this scope as standard. You may still be able to purchase it from them but I notice it is not listed on their web site any longer.

I also spoke to S&B on this subject to confirm the clicks before I purchased it.

It is OK for a hunting scope or an Easterner who cannot find a place to shoot past 600 yards. If I wanted a long range scope I would put up with the extra weight and get the PMII or buy a Nightforce.

Rhutch: Closest thing to fit your bill are the March scopes. I tried to talk Nightforce into coming out with a 3.5-15 x 42, but they opted for the 10X. No FFP, but ....

I have been eyeballing the March 3-24 for a while and it is a contender. Do not need all that power but it is a variable so I can adjust for it. I use 8x to 15x where I hunt depending on the situation. The reticle in that power range looks useable.

The new NF is also a contender. I do not need FFP in a 10x optic or SF for that matter. Not crazy about the mil reticles on paper, would like to see the Mil-R in person before I commit.

Then there is the lowly IOR 2.5-10x42 which I have had a few of and liked them.
Good reticle, nice glass and proper illumination.

If I want to push my weight up a few ounces, the Premier LT GenII MD would be perfect. Have one sitting in the safe right now but it is a little to large for what I am trying to accomplish.
