I figured that this would be as good a place as any to post this. So far I havn't had any luck finding one. There is one, a pre 64 70 on Guns USA, but the seller wants 2,600+ and I think that this is too high. Any suggestions will be welcome.

guns usa, gunbroker, auctionarms.

are the 3 where I have been looking still haven't found any yet in decent shape for a decent price yet though. If one pops up for a decent price I think you better be faster then me.

O'well I don't have the funds for a new rifle right now, but there is always credit.

You could have brand new NULA for that much money(or close to it). Unfortunately the .300 H&H is in the same class as the .257 Roberts and 7x57 in that if you want a good one you are probably better off to have one built. Keep looking though, you just might come across one worth buying.

You are a couple days late. There was a Remington 721, 300 H&H on this forum for $450 shipped. Last post on it was 2-1-08. Deal was pending, but maybe it is still available.

2600? only if it's a minty Supergrade. What is a NULA?...jorge

Ultra light Arms rifles seem to be highly regarded, though I've never owned one so don't have much to add.

There are Remington Classics and 721s around from $450.00-$900.00, and they are just fine for PG and N American hunting.

Kingmanguy,
Keep looking. they're out there. the auction sights offer the best hope. I looked for about 3 months before getting a Pre-64 Model 70 in very good shape.
I wouldn't necessarily go the NULA route, only because of the recoil in such a light rifle. There are other semi-custom rifle makers that offer basically any cartridge you want, but in slightly heavier rifles. When loaded "correctly" the 300 H&H will equal the 300 Winchester Mag., in both power and recoil.

Just wondering, can or what caliber action do you convert to a 300 H&H?

STOKES here at 24hrcf has a minty pre-64 for sale. As I recall the price was pretty reasonable. He went with us on a plains game hunt a couple of years ago but did not take this rifle.

They pop up pretty regularly. Remington 721's, mod 70 post 64's can both be had much more reasonably than $2600.

Heck, you can buy a New rem 700 CDL and have it rebarreled for a heck of a lot less than that.

Seems like you can have one real quick if you want one, but as noted, prices are steep and not getting cheaper, especially pre 64 M70's,which are the quintissential 300 H&H's.
I've owned a few, but, much as I love it, I've given up on the old round. The places I've hunted, I made a point of seeing what was available for factory ammo in case rifle and ammo got seperated.300 H&H ammo was not abundant. My young mid-20's guides in Alberta did not even know what it was!

I know many don't worry about this, but it CAN happen. I think there are better choices today in a 30 caliber magnum, for a traveling hunter. You may want to consider this if you plan on traveling with the rifle.

Here are some to drool on. Another route if you want a single shot is to take a Ruger #1 in .30/06 and have it rechambered. Simple & easy job.

You can always open a 06 to the 300 H&H in a pre 64 Win. and it doesn't cost much..Dennis Olson in Plains, Mt. opened one up for me, and its slick...

The old 300 H&H, with the heavy bullets out performs all but the 300 Wby and the Rums etc, and it comes closer than most think on those big boomers..It is a fantastic caliber..I have been shooting it for years..

I'm thinking that since the H&H is an old caliber there wouldn't be many, if any leftys around..so if one wanted to build one, he would start with a good strong .30-06 action?

I realize a 300 mag would make better sense, but something about an old caliber with a history to it.. If I should ever stumble across a good buy on an old .30-06 700 action in the future, I might have to give it some consideration.

How about the stock on an old .30-06, would it hold up to the conversion or would one need to consider a stronger stock?

Thank you.

Need a mag bolt face so you need an old 300 win mag or 7mag or 264 mag to make it work...stock you get with it will be fine if you bed it.

Kingmanguy,
I had a pristine Rem 721 300 H&H as well as a very, very nice Pre 64 70 in a 300 H&H "improved" listed in the classifieds here on the site last week under "Nice guns for sale". Might be what you are looking for. Check your PMs. I am currently trying to get some pictures of the guns off to some other interested parties.
