What it a real world price for a new production 1895? IIRC the one my brother-in-law was looking at was 30-40 Craig. I thought I remembered full retail being around a thousand.... guy my Brother-in-law spoke with said his wholesale cost was $1200.00... unless this is some sort of special edition....I think I smell BS Thanks

I paid a little less than $1100 for my 100th anniversary SRC in 30-06. the ones chambered for the Krag round came out afterward and have been about $1200. Dollar value vs the Yen may be the reason (or excuse). Here is the link to Davidsons who has them made up. http://www.galleryofguns.com/gunlocator/gunsearch/Product.asp?Manuf=&item_num=534134115&index=0&max=50&start=50&instock=None&manufact_combo=&mod_ser_combo=None&category_combo=None&model=None&g_type=None&act_type=None&finish_type=None&calib_combo=None&sight_class_combo=None&price_range=None&qPromoID=101&EZ=&left_handed=&youth=&item_only=0&oldsql=WHERE+%28unk2+like+%27%251%27+or+unk2+like+%27%252%27%29++AND+PromoID%3D101+AND+ItemID+%3D+Item%23+order+by+manuf%2C+unk2%2C+unk3

CDNN has military carbine replicas in .30-40 Krag for $1200.00 right now. Very cool rifles...If I had the money, one would be sitting in my safe right now.

Kevin that's the model I have in '06. Put a Williams peep on it and sighted it for 220s at about 2300fps. Didn't get to make meat with it this year but only a matter of time. Currently working on a reduced load to match the aperture sight setting or the open ORE ladder sight. When I do I plan to write an article on "all-round rifles" for one of the back-to-the-land magazines.

Thanks guys, I don't have the link handy, but I saw a Rifle Shooter review of the 1895 where list MSRP was just over $1000.00.... so the 30-40 was a "special run" higher price kind of deal then...?

The article you read in Rifle Shooter dates back several years when Winchester had the 1895 in .405 as a regular production item. The current 1895 Saddle Ring Carbines are special runs by Davidsons. The version in .30-06 was made for that cartridge's centennial and is marked as such. The .30-40 is a special run for this year, and I understand only 500 were made.

I think I paid around $1300 for this one in .30-06. (It had the normal barrel length and open sights -- Williams added the aperture sight, ramped front sight and recoil pad.)
.30-06 Springfield: 100 yrs + and still going strong

Maybe I was lucky or maybe it's the caliber, but I picked up a like new one in .270W a couple of years ago in the $700 range. I planned to scope it, but used the "one ragged hole" replacement sight instead. Life is good.

Well I just saw and shot the 30-40 he bought....interesting rifle.... ammo is expensive for it and he doesn't reload..... looks like I'll be ordering the dies to do that for him.... was thinking the 30-40 would be fun with cast bullets.... Which model #<or are they all the same> is the Williams sight that fits it? A link to an online source would be much appreciated. I knew "One ragged hole" made pistol sights.... I need to take a look at ones that would fit this rifle..... off to Google it now... thanks guys

I think that I took the One Ragged Hole off of a model 94. It works fine and looks like the Winchester sight in the add. Good luck.
