A friend of mine has a Marlin model 1896 in a 45-70. The other day he was extracting live rounds when one hung up in the receiver. He tells me that the lever will not move forward anymore. The ammo is the Hornady revelution if that makes a difference.

I have not seen the problem, just what he tried to explain to me over the phone. Any suggestions on how to safely remove the live round and what may have caused the problem?

Thanks .. BP...

the lever can be removed with one screw. once lever is out u can back the bolt out. only need to back bolt out about half way and that should get u access to the loaded round

I'll make a guess based on several older Marlins we've discussed on the Marlin Onwers site. The Hornaday Leverevolution ammo needs a different magazine follower that is dimpled, or you can drill a hole in the center of the follower, or the most simple fix is to alway load a conventional flat point bullet first, and then your new-fangled gummy tips.

Newer Marlins come with the modified follower. It can be purchased at many websites, such as Midway Arms. The gun should function normally with conventional flat point bullets.
