Some complain about the plastic, checkered grips on the newer Ruger revolvers, like your .44 spl, but I find they fit my hand well. I did take a sharp pocket knife and gently cut the tops off the diamonds on the edges...it really takes the bite away when the gun comes up in recoil. The plastic is soft, and they "smooth up" easily, with virtually no aesthetic damage.
