A friend of mine just got her first pistola, Taurus 651. The problem is the trigger is so heavy she can't get but two shots off before she simply can not pull the trigger again. The hammer is bobbed and very difficult to cock. Will it get easier to fire over time or should she look into a trigger job. And how much should a trigger job cost?

Otherwise that's a nice pistol, I shot some .357 cor-bons out of it and it was not as bad as I had anticipated.

Go to Wolff and order a set of springs for starters, that may be all it takes. These should work in her gun.

TAURUS SMALL FRAME REVOLVERS

Includes Model(s): 73, 85, 605 (NOT RECOMMENDED FOR 94/941)

Please Note: Due to changes in newer revolvers, Wolff trigger springs may require some modification.

Yep, that is the right answer right there (as if there would be any doubt with the great one answering). I would only add that a good freind should dry fire the HAIL outta it forst to smooth up the internals, maybe even with some fine grit, 600 or so, valve polishing compound applied to the inside working parts first. Clean that grit out after a few hundred dry fires with the stiff springs, add the new springs and the difference will be just amazing and VERY pleaseing.
Doing such will slick up that Taurus to near Python smoothness and wonderment. BTDT, more than once.

Amazing what can be done to a trigger with relatively small amounts of money and effort. I keep a big pile of Brownells small, medium and heavy duty springs on hand so that I can make my own 'kits' for about any guns. Most common mod is to replace the trigger return spring on a bolt action rifle. Also an amazing difference in before and after.
