I took my Glock 30 to the range this weekend and for the first time ran some of my Hornady XTP reloads through said gun. Out of the 20 reloads used, the slide failed to return all the way to the forward position on close to 50% of the shots. It stopped between 1/8" and 1/4" of returning to its original position and it took a quick pop with the palm of my hand to finish the action. I have fired 3 boxes of factory hardball ammo through it without a problem and I hand load for another Glock so I am not a total novice to the craft. My COAL is right on the money and the powder amount is a little under book max. Any suggestions to help remedy this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

suspect you have the O.A.L. over all length maybe a tad too long.
I would take the barrel out of the unloaded pistol, and try one of your reloads in the barrel and see how it lines up. I had a similar problem using a coal out of a reloading book and for the particular pistol it was just a little too long. The H&G 68 type 200swc if seated out just a little too far will do that.
I would also make darn sure the glock is clean and lead/etc is not building up.

Also check your taper crimp. Mic the mouth of the case on a loaded factory round that works well in your gun, then adjust your taper crimp die to match. I used to know the ideal dimension off the top of my head, but I had more brain cells back then�for some reason .471 comes to mind, but don�t trust that; go with the measurement on the factory round.

I have a Glock 30 with a KKM barrel in it and love the darn thing. The above recommendations seem to be spot on. OAL can be the stopper in a lot of reloads as can any bulges in the case.

I have a LEE factory crimp die in .40 and .45ACP that I take the top of the die off and use a casting pusher from Lee and push the loaded rounds all the way through and out the top of the FCD. That die has a carbide sizing ring in the bottom of it and pushing a completed round through it will smooth out any bumps and bulges in the case.

remove the barrel from your pistol , as you make loads drop them in the chamber and make sure they drop freely in the chamber all the way , you will than learn if it is a coal problem or crip not tight enough

use a bulge buster on your sized cases.
