So, two of my daughters compete on the local high school equestrian team and Trail is one of their events. Among other things, the riders have to safely/successfully navigate through a gate. They wanted their own gate to practice with. They came to me with a photo they pulled off the interweb and asked me to build it. I grabbed my buddy and we banged out a gate in his shop since he owns the arena. We got some sawdust on his reloading bench
Here's the finished product:
After gate building, it was time to shoot. I found a load for my 45 Colt that used Lil' Gun. I've had a pound on hand for awhile and have never used it. I figured I'd try it, as I am looking for a hunting load for my Bisley.
I started out at 24 grains and a Nosler 250gr JHP, as per the book. I loaded up six to try at the range. I shot them at 50 feet, using a rest. They shot fine, but holy smokes--the recoil is significant! I'm not a big fan of recoil, and I think these loads are hot enough for me. It was all I could do not to flinch.
Anyway, I guess I'll load some more of those and take them out to where I can test them at 50 and 75 yards. I still have just the iron sights on the gun and figure that should be about as far as I can hit something--especially when it's time to shoot using only a tree as a rest.
