Ive got a good many 22 rifles includeing a remington 552, ruger 1022, a couple of marlin model 60s, and too many single shots to count but ive been wanting to get a good bolt action for a while.

Its uses will be for squirel hunting and plinking. Wanting a repeater thats capable of mounting a scope. My budget is tight at around 350 mabe 400. What do yall suggest i look for? I dont like the savages ive shot. I been eye ballin a cz and know there sopposedly accurate. Thanks

You can't go wrong with a CZ 452, 453 or 455.

I'm not familiar with the CZ's. I read some good things about them on this board. I do have a Ruger 77/22 that is a fine rifle. It's got a big game rifle feel. It's the laminated stock model with the target gray SS barrel and action.

Try to find a Rem 54x or 58x. The 580s were the "hardwood" bargain version of the target-grade 540s. They came in 580 single shot, 581 clip, and 582 tube-fed. Mine is a 582 and if there's more than one ragged hole in the target after a group, it was my fault.

Snatch up a cz 453. Best value and will hang with or shoot better than rifles 2-3x the price. And yes the set trigger is a ton of fun.

If you want something really traditional looking and feeling, look on gunlist for an older Winchester 69A. The later models were grooved for dovetail scope mounts. Great rifles that just seem to be at home in the field, IMHO.

I have a pair of old BRNO Model 1 sporters, same basic rifle as the CZ. Wonderful rifles and super accurate. I also have a Kimber of Oregon M82 that is awesome but I doubt you could find one in your price range.

I agree with everyone else, a CZ 452 or 453 would be the way to go. I'm partial to the American model but the Lux or Full stocks are also nice.

No arguments there. Not a fan of the set trigger, but I haven't really used it enough to complain. The unset works very nicely. Here's mine which I got used but LNIB. It'll cut staples at 25 yards pretty consistently. One hole groups are the norm.

i gotta throw my hat in with CZ-452. its really hard to go wrong with the CZ. but if you want a 452 you better get to it because they supposedly dc'd the 452 action last year. they can still be found but the options are dwindling.
good luck,

I was shopping around and almost ready to buy a new CZ a couple of years ago, and then I came across a 1940's era Mossberg US44(c) trainer at a gun shop for $260. It shoots better than I probably ever will. I love it.

I would go with the CZ, I have 2 452's one 22 one 17hm2. They shoot way better than their price point.

What I shoot almost every time these days is a Savage Mark II BV. It shoots great with CCI SV ammo, boringly repeatable in the accuracy department. comes with a good trigger. I have mowed down some squirrels and other vermin with it. my gripe with it is simply that that stock is contoured rather cheaply and as a result it has a fat, blocky wrist and forearm.

I won't turn you away from a CZ, they make very good and very popular rimfires. I wouldn't be interested in trading my Savage for anything else, though, my confidence in it is really that high.

I bought a CZ452 American about 7 years ago for $289. I should have bought a truck load of them. If they are going for $400 now, it's still a deal. Great rifle.

yup, always like the 500 series guns, and i will never forgive myself for parting with a 541-T that shot like a bench gun. keep thinkin i'll spy another some day at gun show at a cheap price, but not seein as many around.

but, i did get lucky on some 452's that shoot real good & have some killer tasty wood for that price range, and the triggers are easy to do, and the stock design fit me good... plus you can get them in the 4 RF calibers & thus have an excuse to collect the whole set.

The one thing about buying a CZ is if you are dead set on one try and look at it in the store instead of ordering it. No other maker of guns has such a wide variety of stock figure and quality as CZ does in the same model or price. You might get an "ok" one sight unseen or a great one, you just never know.

I picked this one up a few years ago for under $400 new, it shoots great and what other .22 are you going to get for less than $400 that looks this good and doesn't have a plastic or a really plain looking stock?
