I have an old L61R that I was changing scopes on and torqued the windage screw on the rear base a bit much and snapped it off.

The rings are crap too so I figured I would see whats out there to replace the whole set up. It has the tapered dovetail receiver and I don't know who makes anything for it.

What do you guys recommend for this type rifle? The scope is a heavy 3.3-10x44 AO Monarch.

Thanks!

1. Sako optilocks
2. Leupold QR bases
3. Talley
4. COnetrol

are all options you can use. My favorites are the optilocks

Another big thumbs up for the optilocks. I personally don't care for the Leupy rings on a Sako.

That was quick thanks!

So am I looking for a seperate base and ring set up or do they make a ring mount set up where the base is part of the ring?

Old skool lows won't work with the 44mm bell... They are cool though. Cost ya an arm and a leg on Ebay.

I personally like the one piece Loopy rings, no problems yet on my 2 Suckos.

Leupolds didn't hold well on my L61 so I can't recommend them. Go with any of the others and I think you'll do fine.

Opti lows work great with a 44mm bell, may work with 50 too.

Sako original high rings would match the Rifle. They are on Ebay all the time and sell between 100 and 150 dollars for nice ones. Regards, Rick.

Thanks for the input everyone. This is really just a vault queen so I didn't want to spend a bunch money on her at the moment. I would love to go with the original Sako or Optilocks.

No one mentioned this but instead I found a set of Burris dual dovetail. These must be discontinued as they're pretty tough to find. I already have a set of DD extention rings on hand.

Here's a set of Sako lows on a L 61 R with the 40mm for reference. Not much room between the barrel. But love low glass myself.

Sako orginal rings will be the perfect match for your L61R. The Opti Locks are very strong, but way too heavy/clunky - unless you're putting them on a big bore. I'd look at original Sako, Warne or Talley. I have also had good luck with Leupold. Lou

I've had Leupolds and Millets(sigh...yes Millets) on my Socko rifles with zero problems from either.

That's a nice rig 7STW. I have a pre garcia L61R in '06 with those exact original rings, and my Elite 4200 sits on top just like yours.....Low is the way I like 'em too, and they're very stout.

I have had a pair of medium Leupold ringmounts on a .375 HH Sako Hunter. The scope was an older 4X Burris Signature, the longest and heaviest, albeit brightest fixed 4X scope I've ever looked through. A couple hundred heavy 270 and 300 grain loads did not budge ringmounts or scope. The directions from Leupold say to mount the ringmounts near the middle of the dovetail. I suspect those that report less than satisfactory results with Leupold ringmounts may not have followed directions. Dunno.

Thank you for the kind words JG.
Your right on them being stout.Prolly could throw the rifle off a mountain and the scope mounts would hold up.Have a 338 Win Pre-Garcia and it flat out shoots.Imagine your 06 ain't any different.
