Hi everyone,

I am going to be breaking in my new Kimber 243 here in the near future, and figured I would see if people had any suggestions for specific ammo choices I could/should use. I have looked at options, but this is my first centerfire rifle so I am uncertain of what i should try.

Thanks for your help!

I broke in a 243 last weekend with federal blue box 80 grain soft points...they shot great and at about $18/box are a lot cheaper to shoot than factory tsx's (which also shot great) or ballistic tips. and would be quite adequate on deer and pigs too

Federal Fusions. Or Federal premium with 85 grain TSX. Don't worry about breaking the barrel in just shoot it and then go kill something...

Federal Blue Box 100's in my .243's. Shoot great and have killed a bunch of deer and pigs. Inexpensive and accurate.

+1

The Fed Power Shoks shoot great in my Kimber, and work well on deer sized critters around Texas.

My Montana also shoots Federal Fusion 95's even better, and drives tacks with 58 Hornadys as well. It shoots Federal Premium 100 Partitions very well, also - so I'm pretty well set from varmints to deer.

My Faux Ti 243 shoots all the above well, and dotes on Fed Premium 85 TSX's, as well.

Many good choices- and before it is all said and done you will probably try most. Buy a few boxes in different grain bullets and see if your rifle exhibits a preference. Use a different target for each one and make good notes on each target.

md,

My first centerfire was a Kimber as well, except I thought I'd buy one in 7 WSM and then be done with having to buy rifles, figured I'd just use it on everything.

Then I joined the Campfire...

Yeah, I'm afraid that's going to happen, but then again, is there anything too wrong with buying more firearms! I think not!

I've always shot the handloaded version using core-lokts but as far as factory ammo goes, I didn't know any other existed (grin).
